"I thought this kid was some kind of expert, but it turns out he's just a coward, lacking even the courage to fight in the Arena. If he's this timid, he shouldn't have come to participate in this game," someone remarked.
"Not to mention, this kid has some thick skin; his ability to put on a show is impressive. He should consider becoming an actor," another added.
"I think he must be expressionless; otherwise, how could he maintain the same expression all the time?" someone else chimed in.
A group of people began to chatter among themselves. Jiang Chen's "cowardly" behavior made everyone laugh, mocking him for his apparent weakness. After all, Jiang Chen had previously appeared so calm and collected that many had suspected he might be hiding some deep skills. Now, however, his actions starkly contrasted with his earlier demeanor.
For a moment, everyone felt that Jiang Chen was just there for comic relief. Since he was so timid, there was no need for him to act all impressive.
Jiang Chen ignored their comments; the card meant nothing to him. As for battling these ordinary people in the Arena, he had no interest in such a trivial pursuit.
Suddenly, the heavy wooden door at the back of the hall creaked open, and the old foreign man reappeared.
"For those teams that lost their cards in the first round, don't be discouraged. The game continues with a second round; follow me," the old man said.
The crowd ceased their chatter and grew tense again as they followed the old man down a long corridor to the back of the castle.
This area seemed to be the castle's back garden or perhaps more accurately, the wolves' backyard. A barbed-wire fence enclosed several acres of woodland where hundreds of wild wolves were kept. They looked as though they hadn't eaten in days and stared hungrily at the newcomers, drool dripping from their mouths.
Everyone was taken aback by this sight.
"The second round of this game tests your courage. You must pass through the wolf pack and reach the other side safely. Teams that make it without any casualties will receive a reward of ten cards," the old man explained.
Upon hearing his words, panic spread among the crowd. Even though ten cards were tempting, no one dared to enter; wasn't that just asking for death?
"There are only five of us on our team, but there are hundreds of Hungry Wolves inside! If we go in there, we're doomed! This task is impossible!" voices rose in protest.
The old man smiled and replied, "If it were easy to accomplish, this game wouldn't be interesting. Of course, we will provide you with weapons, but you'll need to purchase them with cards. One card can buy you a handgun or two long knives. Remember, you need to work together; only if you and your teammates all pass safely will you earn those extra ten cards."
"Is it possible not to participate?" someone asked in a terrified tone.
"This game has no retreat once it begins. If you continue, you might survive and earn generous rewards; but if you give up halfway through, then you might as well die now," the old man said calmly.
"You don't want to participate?" After finishing his statement, he turned his steady gaze toward the young man who had expressed a desire to withdraw.
At that moment, one of the men in black behind him raised a handgun.
"No, I was just asking casually. Of course, I will participate," the young man said, drenched in cold sweat.
"That's good," the old man replied with a faint smile. "Now, as you all know the rules for the second round, let's begin the game. If you want to exchange your weapons, do it quickly. You only have three minutes to make the exchange. If you miss this time, you'll have to face those E Wolves with nothing but your bare hands."
