In recent days, Wei Jingxi had been unusually quiet. In the past, whenever he felt down, he would choose to go for a drive, releasing his pent-up stress in the thrill of pushing his limits. But this time, he locked himself in his room, not speaking to anyone, including Zheng Mengni. Their last conversation had ended a few days ago, and they both tacitly refrained from sending each other any messages.
Wei Jingxi still couldn't understand how things had come to this point with Zheng Mengni. He was unsure where things had gone wrong that caused the love he thought was within reach to slip away. As Zheng Mengni approached with her family to exchange pleasantries with Wei Nanxuan, she noticed an unfamiliar yet strikingly beautiful face among the crowd. Everyone else stood, but he sat casually with one leg crossed at the most prominent spot, enjoying cherries.
Noticing Zheng Mengni's gaze, Guan Su Lin smiled with a cherry pit between his lips, presenting what he believed to be a kind and dignified expression. This smile might have appeared tender on someone else's face; however, Guan Su Lin possessed stunningly beautiful fox-like eyes with light-colored irises that sparkled with an enchanting allure.
His face was a gift from heaven. Upon closer inspection, his deep-set eyes, high nose, and naturally rosy lips created an impeccable visage. Yet it was the way these features came together on Guan Su Lin's face that accentuated all his advantages to perfection.
Zheng Mengni momentarily lost her focus before quickly averting her gaze; she did not believe Guan Su Lin was greeting her. It was often said that men and women were destined for wealth together, and there was truth in that saying.
The man, more dazzling than any woman, exuded an air of noble elegance from head to toe, moving with a calmness that only comes from being accustomed to respect. Zheng Mengni linked arms with Sun Yao as they entered the hall, while Zheng Yicheng and Zheng Zeqi chatted with several partners behind them.
The grand wedding was underway, and amidst the gossip, Zheng Mengni unexpectedly learned the true identity of Wei Nanxuan's new wife. Wei Nanxuan had not intended to keep it a secret; Luo Xuezhi's identity had always been managed by her mother abroad.
On the day of the wedding, many influential guests recognized the face of Zhang Mo at the entrance. Guan Su Lin, hailing from the nation's top aristocracy, had parents who were both Chinese. The Guan Family had wielded immense power in the country for decades. The then-leader, Guan Su Lin's grandfather, had traveled far for love and established a family overseas. The next leader, Guan Li, fathered a son at sixty-three with a Chinese woman, creating a tale of romance.
As for Luo Xuezhi, she was ten years older than Guan Su Lin and was the daughter of his third sister. A bit rebellious, she returned to her homeland in secret to become a relatively unknown singer and later willingly followed Wei Nanxuan without any formal ties.
Reliable sources indicated that the Guan Family was planning to shift their influence back to the country, with intentions to focus on domestic affairs in the future. Some speculated that Luo Xuezhi and Wei Nanxuan's sudden wedding was meant to announce the Guan Family's return and development.
Zheng Mengni quietly stared at Luo Xuezhi on stage, noting her still-flat abdomen; this child would not be an illegitimate one but would carry the blood of two prominent families. Zheng Yicheng’s expression was unreadable, and the Zheng Family's seats were deliberately arranged several tables away from the head table. This was Wei Nanxuan's warning; he and Zheng Yicheng had chosen this day to completely end their long-defunct union.
Before the banquet reached its halfway point, someone had too much to drink. In this joyous atmosphere, Zheng Mengni found herself in trouble first. A drunken man stumbled past her and accidentally knocked over his wine glass, spilling thick red wine all over her skirt and creating vivid stains resembling blooming plum blossoms.
Zheng Zeqi quickly removed his suit jacket and draped it over her lap to shield her from unwanted exposure. Not far away, Tan Yan paused slightly with his wine glass in hand, as if suppressing something; his calm yet enigmatic expression was hard to decipher. He merely glanced at the chaos surrounding Zheng Mengni before returning his focus to Tan Zheng and continuing their previous conversation.
Sun Yao was about to confront the drunken man about his clumsiness when Zheng Mengni gently squeezed her palm in reassurance. "It's fine, Mom. There are too many people here; he didn't notice. I'll just clean up in the restroom."
