This younger sister is indeed a bit cute. Listening to the commotion, the two fools beside her only grew bolder, and Ye Bingran had no interest in sitting there listening to their antics. He let go and said, "Get up."
Zheng Mengni obediently stood up. Ye Bingran glanced at the hairpin behind her, confirming that it hadn’t fallen off during the earlier tussle, before he raised his hand to push open the door. The noise from the next room grew louder, and without looking back, Ye Bingran strode away.
As he passed by the doorway, Zheng Mengni looked up to check if she had gone to the wrong restroom. Ye Bingran coldly laughed and kicked aside the "No Entry" cone warning sign.
Once outside the restroom, Zheng Mengni parted ways with Ye Bingran, but she didn’t expect their second meeting to come so quickly. She couldn’t understand what extraordinary qualities Ye Siqian possessed that made Zheng Yicheng, who usually held himself in high regard, look at him with admiration and even invite him to dinner that evening.
Zheng Yicheng not only valued talent but also had a great love for painting. At every auction, he would ensure he acquired exquisite relics from various regions. However, the works that Zhou Minshi had painted for him in the past had never earned such high praise from Zheng Yicheng. Yet here was Ye Siqian, who hadn’t even shown a single piece of artwork but was already receiving such attention. Zheng Mengni found it perplexing.
Ye Bingran was even more surprised because Ye Siqian’s exceptional performance had led to rapid progress. After spending so many days together, he couldn’t help but wonder if this was still the same foolish boy he knew.
The dinner took place in an ancient-style villa where all the waitstaff wore exquisite traditional attire, lightly made up, with neat and tidy hairstyles. Each dining table was separated by folding screens, behind which musicians played the guqin, filling the air with melodious tunes.
Zheng Yicheng sat next to Zheng Mengni while the two members of the Ye family sat across from them. After a brief introduction, Zheng Mengni learned that what Zheng Yicheng admired was not Ye Siqian’s insights into painting but rather his superb photography skills. Both painting and photography were forms of artistic creation, sharing a close relationship.
Ye Siqian knew that mere words wouldn’t earn him Zheng Yicheng’s trust; after all, the latter was an expert with discerning eyes. The truth behind a facade could not be hidden forever; although Ye Bingran had taught him exquisite techniques, there would eventually come a day when they would be exposed. It would be better to capture Zheng Yicheng's attention using his most proficient skill instead.
Zheng Yicheng took a piece of beef and slowly said, "A Yao always wants to go out and explore. I've been too busy to accompany her, but once summer vacation comes, I'll make time to take you all out. At that time, I'll have to ask Si Qian to come along; his photography skills are quite good. I believe A Yao, being so picky, will be satisfied."
Zheng Mengni glanced sideways and saw her own astonished expression reflected in the glass window. She hadn't expected that her father had specifically invited Ye Siqian to dinner just to cheer up her mother. She lowered her head and chuckled softly, "With a professional photographer around, we won't have to worry about Mom bothering you for not taking any pictures."
As she spoke, she stole a glance at the gentle and shy Ye Siqian, her heart swirling with thoughts. Was their encounter at the art exhibition merely a coincidence? Clearly, at the exhibition, Ye Siqian had never mentioned anything about photography and had even gained her father's trust.
Zheng Mengni lifted her teacup and took a small sip, the softness in her eyes vanishing in an instant. After finishing their meal, she quietly followed Zheng Yicheng as he went to settle the bill.
At the staircase, the Ye siblings were waiting, and she hid behind the wall corner. "Sister, I've done as you said and gained Zheng Yicheng's trust. There are still two months until summer vacation; he will take us along then."
A calm voice responded, "Good job."
Ye Siqian seemed a bit conflicted. "But... Miss Zheng seems like a good person. Are you really determined to drive her out of the Zheng Family?"
Ye Bingran scoffed coldly, "Didn't you say you wanted your dear sister to stay with you forever? You’ve been without parents since childhood; she's your only family. Can you really let her go?"
Ye Siqian lowered his head helplessly. "Of course I don’t want to let her go, but I'm afraid she’ll be sad if she leaves the Zheng Family."
"Fool," Ye Bingran said ominously. "Once she leaves the Zheng Family, you'll be all she has left. Besides, you're her only family."
"Yeah," Ye Bingran continued with a sinister expression. "So just play your part well and lower her guard, understand? Don’t feel guilty; we’re just correcting a mistake."
Ye Siqian nodded. "I understand." As he spoke, his throat bobbed slightly, and beneath his glasses lay a gaze filled with profound meaning.
He casually glanced over Ye Bingran's head towards the corner where Zheng Mengni was hiding and silently mouthed the words: "She’s leaving."
Ye Bingran didn’t turn around; his calm face showed no hint of triumph or satisfaction.
The stage was set for the fraudster and the actor, but Xiao Ni was not likely to fall into their trap. In the later scenes, the crematorium would have to arrange something severe for Ye Bingran.
