So what?
She had always been cautious and careful, never causing her parents any trouble. But a life without mischief is not a complete life; after being the good girl for so long, it wouldn't hurt to reveal a little of her true nature.
In the school auditorium, there was still an hour before the Opening Ceremony officially began. Tan Yan had called for an impromptu meeting, and Zheng Mengni, as the head of the organization department, arrived early at the auditorium.
Zheng Mengni looked around. Had she come too early? She sighed and tapped her head, wondering when she would be able to change this bad habit of hers. She was always overly enthusiastic, like someone who had just been injected with adrenaline. But perhaps it was just her nature to be a bit of a keener, arriving early for important events.
Zheng Mengni casually found an empty seat and sat down. She didn’t play with her phone; instead, she lightly bit her lip and stared blankly at the podium. This semester, she was eligible to run for the position of student council president. If any scandals emerged, Tan Yan would likely find himself in a precarious position, not just as president of the student council.
The more she thought about it, the happier she became, her cheeks flushing with a sense of triumph. She was deeply lost in her pleasant fantasies, completely unaware of the footsteps behind her that had intentionally slowed down.
When Zheng Mengni first entered the auditorium, Tan Yan had already arrived. He stood at a distance where he could see her but not too far away to lose sight of her slender and graceful figure. It had been two months since they last met. Since their last parting, he had dreamt about Zheng Mengni almost every night.
Tan Yan was not interested in physical love; prior to this, he had never felt any sexual impulse towards Zheng Mengni beyond kissing and hugging. But that one abrupt moment had left him addicted, which he found quite astonishing. Day and night, he was consumed by thoughts of her while also worrying that Zheng Mengni's identity might be exposed, jeopardizing their chances of being together. This is why Tan Yan was determined to eliminate Ye Bingran, the ticking time bomb in their lives.
The explosion at the club was orchestrated by Tan Yan himself.
He did not trust Wu Hao and would not allow any fool to ruin things. To ensure absolute safety, he even contemplated getting rid of Wu Hao and his group altogether.
However, Tan Yan did not expect that Zheng Mengni would also be involved. He was terrified, his mind blank; he had never felt so anxious before. In his plans, he had never considered that Zheng Mengni could die. So when such a possibility arose, he had no idea what to do or how to respond.
Should they die together?
Tan Yan had a seven-year history of suicidal thoughts; he was more unafraid of death than anyone else. But this was his mistake that led to Zheng Mengni getting hurt. Did he still have the face to die?
For Tan Yan, a smooth death would be a happy ending. He had made a mistake; did that mean he should be rewarded?
Just as Tan Yan was being torn apart by painful emotions, Zheng Mengni was brought back by the Zheng Family. The doctor said she was fine, just fainted from excessive fright.
Tan Yan's heart suddenly stopped for a moment. A person so timid could easily be terrified by an explosion; how could she not be scared?
He hated his own negligence and vowed to protect Zheng Mengni well—to do so under the guise of imprisonment.
Tan Yan suppressed the darkness in his eyes and replaced it with a standard, polite smile as he approached Zheng Mengni and greeted her.
When Zheng Mengni heard his voice, she realized she had been deceived. She glanced at the time; it was already three minutes past the appointment with no one else in sight.
Had Tan Yan spread false information just to lure her here?
A chill ran down her spine. Why did he always want to come find her? She wasn’t that interesting.
These people were truly neurotic.
Despite these thoughts, when Zheng Mengni looked up, she still smiled warmly at Tan Yan, her charm infectious, revealing not a hint of her unease.
