Wei Jingxi sat in the car, feeling a heaviness in his chest as he gazed out at the unfamiliar scenery. An inexplicable sensation surged within him, a sense of unreality. He was over ten thousand kilometers away from Zheng Mengni, with a time difference of several hours.
Leaning back in his seat, he raised the back of his hand to painfully cover his aching eyes, unwilling to dwell on the face he could never touch. The car reached the bustling city center and came to a halt due to the traffic jam. The driver rolled down the window and glanced at the endless stream of vehicles before turning to kindly suggest that Wei Jingxi take a moment to rest; by the time he woke up, they would likely be nearing their destination.
Wei Jingxi merely hummed in response. How could he possibly sleep? Bored, he turned his head to look out the window. On a large screen at the intersection, a video was playing on a loop, drawing a crowd of onlookers on both sides of the road.
Fixated on the dazzling profile displayed on the giant screen, Wei Jingxi found himself asking, “Who is that?”
The driver looked over excitedly and replied, “An international superstar.”
Suddenly, Wei Jingxi’s dull eyes brightened for a moment as he pressed his lips together in contemplation, absentmindedly rubbing the ring on his left middle finger.
Before entering rehab, Ye Bingran had sent a message to Ye Siqian, briefly explaining the situation and suggesting that she find something to do until he got out so she wouldn’t starve. After some hesitation, he mentioned Ye Siqian’s identity to Zheng Mengni as well; one must not be untrustworthy.
As for whether Ye Siqian had the capability to convince Zheng Mengni to acknowledge this false brother, that was no longer his concern. Life in rehab was far from easy; it was strictly managed with military discipline, and all communication devices were confiscated upon entry.
The daily routine of rehabilitation therapy and psychological counseling was grueling, but what was harder to endure was the loneliness—the isolation and pain during cravings when there was no one to rely on. Even the strongest will can waver at times; these difficult days felt endless for Ye Bingran.
This place was merely Novel World. If this world were to perish completely, perhaps there would be a chance for him in reality. As this thought crossed his mind, an odd feeling stirred within him—he couldn’t quite articulate what it was.

Zheng Mengni was busier than she had anticipated. Even though learning new things came easier to her now, she dared not let her guard down for a moment, fearing that any lapse in focus would lead to regression. Having tasted the sweetness of success, she no longer wished to experience the pain of failure. Many times, she ignored calls from abroad or from the rehabilitation center.
As for Zheng Mengni's unintentional neglect, Wei Jingxi chose to silently vent his feelings alone. Once he had released enough of his emotions, he quickly gathered himself and returned to his own pursuits. He was determined to shine brightly and stand out in everything he did.
Then one day, Zheng Mengni could no longer ignore his presence.
