Zheng Mengni sincerely thanked the sudden voice that appeared, grateful for the release from the troubles that had plagued her and for the opportunity to help Ye Bingran.
In another world, she had witnessed Ye Bingran's death before her eyes. At that time, she felt helpless, with no way to intervene. But this time was different; she had foreseen the time and place of Ye Bingran's car accident and could make ample preparations to prevent it from happening.
A week before the accident, Zheng Mengni sent a message to Ye Bingran, but it fell into silence, as if it had vanished without a trace. When she opened the chat window again, she was startled to find that the message had inexplicably disappeared. It felt as though an unseen force was urging her to wake up, reminding her that predetermined outcomes are not easily changed.
Not easily changed did not mean impossible. Zheng Mengni quickly packed her things and booked a flight to Ye Bingran's city. There were only three days left until the accident.
As Zheng Mengni rushed to arrive, Ye Bingran was in a serious discussion with others, the atmosphere tense and everyone’s expressions grave. He slightly turned his head and caught sight of Zheng Mengni, disheveled and weary, which caused a sharp pain in his chest.
In his subconscious, he had raised this girl; she should never appear so haggard in front of outsiders, including him. With a hint of regret, Ye Bingran paused the meeting and strode over to Zheng Mengni, his eyes betraying an unmistakable concern.
Suddenly, a soft and cold body crashed into his embrace. Zheng Mengni held onto him tightly, unwilling to let go. The facade of calm she had maintained crumbled in an instant; seeing Ye Bingran made her realize just how much she didn’t want him to leave.
Three days—only three days left.
"What’s wrong, Ni Ni?" Ye Bingran asked gently as he returned her embrace, his hand soothingly stroking her slightly trembling back.
He didn’t know when it had started, but his emotions were easily swayed by her presence. When Zheng Mengni was sad, he felt sadness too.
"Xiao Ye Ge," she began to tell him about the car accident when suddenly her throat was constricted by an unseen force that silenced her. She wanted to change the outcome but was continuously thwarted.
Ye Bingran tilted his head slightly, concern and curiosity flickering in his eyes as he called out her name again.
The girl in his arms replied softly, "No... I just miss you a bit."
"Xiao Ye Ge, you haven’t been home for such a long time."
"I miss you, so I want to see you with my own eyes."
Her soft voice was filled with dependence and longing, causing his ears to flush and his pupils to constrict slightly, shimmering with subtle waves. He missed her too. Everything was about to come to an end. From now on, as long as he was there, he would ensure that she could have the best of everything in this world.
He lowered his head, his voice cautious and somewhat placating. "I'm sorry for not taking care of you during this time. In a few days, can we go back together?"
She nuzzled against his neck, her eyelashes fluttering lightly. "Then for these few days, no matter where you go, can you take me with you?"
It was rare for him to hesitate when faced with her request.
"Brother Ye, I want to be with you," she said softly.
His body stiffened further; he knew he couldn't refuse her, no matter what she asked. Yet this time, her wish was so simple that he found it hard to agree immediately. He truly did not want her to fall into danger.
"Alright." After a moment of hesitation, he replied softly. There would always be a way, he thought.
