It was absurd.
Ye Bingran felt a twinge of shame. Since he had been by Zheng Mengni's side, he had played many roles: uncle, father, brother, friend. Regardless of the identity he took on, there was no justification for doing such things with Zheng Mengni. She was far weaker than him; if he wanted to stop this inappropriate behavior, he had every opportunity to do so. Yet, he didn't even pretend to resist. He simply let her come in.
It was his fault for not closing the door properly; it was he who had handed the key to Zheng Mengni when he sensed something amiss. Ye Bingran's breath became somewhat uneasy, but there was no turning back now. In another capacity, he could take care of her well into eternity.
As he moved closer, trying to regain control of the situation, Zheng Mengni gently pushed him away.
"Xiao Ye Ge, can you accompany me tomorrow?"
Ye Bingran suddenly snapped back to reality; tomorrow's events were crucial to the outcome of all his careful planning. If he could just endure one more day, he was confident that things would improve day by day until they reached the best possible outcome.
In those two seconds of hesitation, Zheng Mengni looked so aggrieved. "So what you just said about spending time with me was a lie, right?"
Ye Bingran hurriedly tried to explain, "No, it's not like that. Tomorrow I—"
Zheng Mengni cut him off without a second thought. "You’re just going to make excuses. You think deceiving me is fun? I was genuinely happy, but your change of heart is so quick! You’re sure I won’t be hurt or upset?"
"Xiao Ni, listen to me—"
Ye Bingran reached out to pull her into his embrace, but Zheng Mengni slapped his hand away and jumped off the bed, ready to leave.
"I'll come early tomorrow to keep you company, okay?"
Zheng Mengni ignored him and turned her head away.
Ye Bingran caught up and wrapped his arms around her waist, burying his head in her neck and speaking softly, "I don’t want to."
Zheng Mengni curled her fingers slightly, deliberately putting on a stern face as she asked, "Do you think I'm being unreasonable?"
Ye Bingran responded almost without thinking, "Of course not. How could you be unreasonable?"
"Then, would it be difficult for you to accompany me?" she inquired.
"Not at all."
"Are you angry?"
"No."
"Do you like me?" she pressed on.
Without hesitation, Ye Bingran replied, "I do."
Finally, Zheng Mengni turned around. He lifted her chin and pressed a kiss on her lips.
"You’re so gentle. Actually, I wouldn’t mind at all," she said with a smile as she pulled back slightly.
Before she could finish her sentence, Ye Bingran leaned down and chased after her lips again.
The kisses fell like raindrops, light and dense, cascading downwards like feathers brushing against the delicate skin of her neck.
The kisses deepened gradually, heading towards a point of no return, showing no signs of stopping.
Zheng Mengni grew restless with just kissing and pushed him back gently.
The soft bed had enough space for both of them, but just as things were heating up, Ye Bingran suddenly grasped her restless hand.
His ears burned as he admitted, "I wasn't prepared for this today."
Zheng Mengni tilted her head and asked, "Does this really need a rehearsal?"
Ye Bingran bit his lip and replied, "No, it's just that I didn't buy anything."
Zheng Mengni sat up, straddling his waist as she reached into the drawer to retrieve what she had prepared in advance.
"I don’t know what size you are; I bought a few. You can take a look yourself," she said.
Ye Bingran had no idea about these things; he had never experienced it before. He reached out and randomly picked one.
Zheng Mengni held the packaging, glancing left and right. She felt a bit doubtful and sincerely said, "You probably shouldn't get involved with this."
