After three days of softening, Wu Rong finally returned to his room to video chat with his teacher. Meanwhile, Rao Jie and Nina stayed in the living room.
Nina elegantly sipped her coffee and nibbled on snacks, her mood seemingly bright as she said, "You really make great desserts."
The compliment made Rao Jie realize that even though Nina hadn't taken Wu Rong away this time, in Nina's heart, as long as Wu Rong began to soften, anything was possible.
Afterward, Nina naturally left, and Wu Rong didn’t even bother to see her off to the airport. However, after his video call with his teacher, he seemed to change entirely. He often buried himself in research or stared blankly into space.
Gradually, Rao Jie felt neglected; perhaps they had been too close recently, making Wu Rong's current demeanor feel a bit strange to her. Even Ye Ming noticed something was off with Wu Rong. "Hey there, beautiful clerk, lost in thought?"
Rao Jie jolted awake, realizing she had been daydreaming again during her shift. When she looked up, she saw Long Yong and He Dong standing in front of her, both wearing broad smiles.
"Senior? What brings you here?"
Long Yong replied, "What’s up? You look like you have a lot on your mind. We happened to pass by and thought we’d check on you."
He Dong greeted her while eyeing the desserts in the display case. "Rao Jie, which one is good? Recommend something; I could eat five!"
Long Yong rolled his eyes. "Aren't you on a diet?"
He Dong chuckled. "After working so hard today, I'm exhausted! I need to replenish my energy." He then smiled at Rao Jie and said, "Rao Jie, it's on me! What do you want? Let’s order together."
Rao Jie quickly waved her hands. "I can’t; I’m still working."
The store manager chimed in, "Rao Jie, are they your classmates? It’s fine; there aren’t many customers right now. Why don’t you take a break and chat for a bit?"
Rao Jie usually worked diligently at the shop, and the manager appreciated her efforts. However, she had seemed troubled in recent days, which made the manager a bit worried about her.
With the manager's approval, He Dong and Long Yong naturally pulled Rao Jie over to sit with them. As soon as they sat down, He Dong smiled and said, "I just dragged Long Yong over here, but he was reluctant at first. He said Professor Wu might be around, and if we ran into him, he would definitely get jealous."
Rao Jie smiled helplessly at this. Long Yong playfully nudged He Dong and turned to Rao Jie, saying, "Don't mind him; I was just joking. But honestly, I really thought that with Professor Wu's personality, he would be here bothering you."
Rao Jie pressed her lips together and replied with a smile, "He has his own things to take care of."
Long Yong paused for a moment, his brow slightly furrowed. He Dong didn’t notice and continued, "He just asked about other things concerning you."
As they chatted, Rao Jie couldn’t help but ask, "I have a question I've been wanting to ask you both."
He Dong nodded in agreement while Long Yong remained silent, watching Rao Jie intently.
Rao Jie hesitated before asking, "What do you think of Professor Wu? Do you think he is an exceptional person? Is staying here somewhat... beneath him compared to those prestigious international schools?"
