Rainy Night Eye Shadow 2: Hospital Horror

When I opened my eyes again, I found myself lying on a hospital bed. The white ceiling and the sharp smell of disinfectant made everything feel both strange and familiar. Pei Wen sat by my bedside, holding me tightly, her voice choked with emotion. 0

“Xi Xi, you finally woke up. Do you know how worried I was about you?” 0

In that moment, my thoughts were still immersed in the terrifying scenes from last night, as if I had returned to that stormy night. I had lost consciousness two kilometers away from the crime scene, on the side of the street. If it hadn't been for a student who found me in time and took me to the hospital, I might have lost the child I was carrying. 0

Pei Wen held me with relief, her eyes slightly red as she introduced me to the student who brought me to the hospital. I lifted my head to see a clean-cut, handsome face nodding at me. 0

“Teacher Xi Xi,” he said softly. 0

“Chen,” I replied absently, my mind still filled with images of last night's murder. I forced a smile and added, “Thank you.” 0

“It’s nothing; it’s what I should do.” His dark eyes revealed no hint of emotion. 0

Chen Duo was one of the top students in our department, but he was also the least sociable. Just a couple of days ago, the principal mentioned that he might be recommended for graduate studies, but for some reason, it hadn’t been confirmed yet. Little did I expect that just days later, he would become my savior. 0

Seeing that I was awake, Pei Wen left to find a doctor. The ward was left with just Chen Duo and me. My thoughts remained tangled in the events of last night. 0

The faint sound of his black boots tapping against the ground echoed in my ears, reminiscent of the hurried raindrops on a stormy night, sending chills down my spine. 0

"Are you leaving?" I asked softly, trying to break the unsettling silence. 0

"There are still classes today," he replied curtly. 0

"Oh, thank you, Chen. When you have time, Pei Wen and I would like to treat you to a meal." I forced a smile, though it felt strained. 0

"No need," his voice remained cold and distant. 0

I opened my mouth, but honestly, I lacked the strength to continue speaking. The only thought racing through my mind was to call the police. 0

At that moment, I instinctively glanced toward the door, wondering if Pei Wen had returned. Yet, the dark figure still stood at the entrance—black hair, eyes, clothes, and boots… like a shadow cloaked in darkness, pale and expressionless as it stared at me, locking eyes with mine. 0

"Chen!" My voice was sharp enough to nearly pierce through my eardrums. 0

Why was he still here? That meant he had been watching me all this time! A chill shot up my spine as I realized how much he resembled the murderer from that rainy night! Or perhaps… he was the murderer?! 0

What did he want from me? Was he trying to confirm whether I had seen something? 0

An overwhelming panic surged within me like a tidal wave, tightening my throat and making it hard to breathe. I swallowed hard, forcing myself to calm down as I heard my own voice tremble: "I don’t know; wasn’t it said to be suicide?" 0

As soon as I woke up, I checked my phone for messages from the school group chat, which had already exploded with activity. The news of Yu Lili's death had spread throughout the entire school, and everyone was discussing whether it was suicide or homicide. 0

Although the police claimed that he was pushed, the school, in an effort to maintain calm, publicly declared it a suicide. Chen Duo did not press further; instead, he revealed a strange cold smile. 0

"That's just to avoid unnecessary panic. Everyone knows that if it were truly a suicide, the police wouldn't still be investigating on campus." 0

My heart raced, cold sweat trickling down my forehead. Each of his words felt like a sharp knife, piercing straight into my heart. 0

"Someone in the class group said it would be great if a witness appeared right now. The power outage last night cut off the surveillance, and the heavy rain washed away most of the clues. Having a witness would make things much easier." He paused for a moment, each word he spoke carrying an icy chill. "But..." 0

He leaned in slightly closer, his face coming nearer, and his low voice whispered in my ear, "Who would go to the teaching building at such a late hour? The only one who could is the murderer, right? Don't you agree, Teacher Xixi?" 0
