Chen Duo told me that the relationship between Xu Manman and Pei Wen was not normal. My first reaction was disbelief; how could Pei Wen, who treated me so well, possibly cheat? When I got home, Pei Wen was in the kitchen cooking. I sat on the sofa, my mind swirling with Chen Duo's accusations. When Pei Wen called me to eat, I casually asked, "Pei Wen, do you think Xu Manman was killed by that man because she was someone else's mistress?" Pei Wen paused while chopping vegetables before replying coldly, "I don’t know." His reaction felt too indifferent; could it be that Chen Duo was lying? Yet, a knot of unease remained in my heart.
That night, Pei Wen slept soundly. I quietly took out my phone and logged into QQ. The screenshots Chen Duo had sent me were still there—updates from Xu Manman's space showcasing luxury items and photos of high-end restaurants. Xu Manman's family wasn’t wealthy; how could she afford such things? However, the men in those photos were never the same; I could only see their backs, and occasionally a face obscured by a mosaic. Just as I was losing interest...
A familiar profile appeared before my eyes. Pei Wen! He was wearing a white shirt, embracing Xu Manman, and gently kissing her high-end handbag.
My mind buzzed, as if something had shattered inside me. No wonder Pei Wen left early and returned late every day, claiming to be working overtime but never allowing me to see him. It turned out he wasn’t busy with work; he was busy "taking care" of another woman.
Xu Manman bought so many things; it was all my money she was spending. I felt like a clown, deceived by everyone around me. Yet he took my money to support another woman.
I trembled with rage, biting my lip tightly to stifle any sound, terrified of waking Pei Wen. In that moment, all I wanted was to kill him. I fought against the nausea and continued scrolling through Xu Manman’s social media, hoping to find pictures of other men.
Unfortunately, there were no other men in sight. However, one post caught my attention. Xu Manman wrote: “My boyfriend always complains that I spend too much money; it’s so annoying. If only he would give me money like other men do.”
Beneath this post was a picture of Pei Wen and Xu Manman dining at an upscale restaurant. Xu Manman wore a sexy spaghetti strap dress and had her makeup done perfectly, leaning happily against Pei Wen’s shoulder. Meanwhile, Pei Wen was dressed in a suit, wearing a gentle smile that radiated affection in his eyes.
I could no longer contain myself; I quietly picked up Pei Wen's phone.
He opened his purchasing software and restaurant reservation information. Sure enough, besides the money spent on me, Pei Wen had also spent a lot on Xu Manman. He was really generous! In my anger, I clicked on a hidden Dark Web forum application belonging to Pei Wen.
