Chapter Two
When I opened my eyes, I found myself lying on a hospital bed.
The smell of disinfectant filled my nostrils, making me feel nauseous.
Outside the window, the sky had darkened, and a few stars twinkled faintly in the night.
What happened to me?
I remembered being at Mo Han's grave, then He Yun arrived, and shortly after that, my stomach began to ache violently. After that, everything went blank.
Did someone bring me to the hospital?
Who brought me here?
I tried to sit up but found myself too weak; waves of pain surged through my stomach.
"Manager Lu, you’re awake!" A young nurse entered the room and exclaimed with surprise upon seeing me conscious.
"What happened to me?" I asked weakly.
"You had a gastric attack and fainted in the cemetery. A kind person brought you to the hospital," she said while pouring me a glass of water.
"A kind person?" I furrowed my brow. "Who was it?"
"It was a Mr. Wang. He left his phone number and left, saying he was your friend," the nurse replied.
Mr. Wang?
I didn’t know anyone with that surname.
Could it be Xu Feng?
But how could he know I was at the cemetery?
And why would he be so kind as to bring me to the hospital?
"Manager Lu, please drink some water. I'll go call the doctor," the nurse said as she handed me a cup of water.
I nodded, took the cup, and sipped some water.
The warm liquid flowed into my stomach, easing a wave of pain.
"By the way, how long was I unconscious?" I asked.
"About three hours," the nurse replied.
Three hours?
I was out for that long?
What about He Yun?
Where is she now?
Had she and Xu Feng already...
The thought gripped my heart like an invisible hand, squeezing tightly and making it hard to breathe.
No, I can't just lie here!
I need to find He Yun!
I want to ask her what exactly she wants to do!
I struggled to get out of bed, but the nurse stopped me.
"Manager Lu, you can't get out of bed yet. The doctor said you need to rest," the nurse advised.
"Get out of my way!" I growled, my voice hoarse.
"Manager Lu, you..." The nurse tried to say something, but I pushed her aside.
I stumbled out of bed and made my way toward the door.
"Manager Lu! You can't leave! Manager Lu!" The nurse called out anxiously from behind me.
I ignored her and staggered out of the hospital.
A cold wind blew, causing me to shiver involuntarily.
I hailed a taxi and gave the driver the address of He Yun Gallery.
Throughout the ride, my mind was a whirlwind of confusion.
Thoughts raced through my head, leaving me agitated.
He Yun, what do you really want?
Are you truly going to marry Xu Feng?
Do you really hate me this much?
The taxi came to a stop in front of the gallery.
I paid the fare and got out of the car.
The gallery was brightly lit, bustling with people, and filled with a lively atmosphere.
I spotted He Yun standing among the crowd at once.
She wore a black evening gown, her figure graceful and radiant, resembling a proud queen.
Beside her stood a familiar figure—Xu Feng.
Xu Feng was dressed in a sharp suit, handsome and charming, exuding elegance.
Together, they looked so well-matched, so dazzling.
My heart was once again pierced with pain.
I forced myself to endure the sharp ache in my stomach as I walked toward them step by step.
"He Yun!" I called out.
My voice was loud, cutting through the noise of the crowd and drawing attention.
Everyone stopped and turned to look at me.
He Yun also turned around and saw me.
A flicker of surprise crossed her face, but it quickly faded into calmness.
"What are you doing here?" He Yun asked lightly, her tone indifferent.
"Why can't I be here?" I retorted, my voice firm.
"This place doesn't welcome you," Xu Feng said, his tone unfriendly.
"I'm talking to He Yun. Do you have any right to interrupt?" I replied coldly.
"You!" Xu Feng was left speechless, his face turning bright red.
"He Yun, let's go," He Yun said, pulling Xu Feng's hand and turning to leave.
"He Yun, stop right there!" I shouted, rushing forward to grab He Yun's hand.
"Let go of me!" He Yun forcefully shook off my hand and said coldly.
"He Yun, what do you really want?" I questioned. "Are you really going to marry Xu Feng?"
"Yes, I'm going to marry him," He Yun looked at me, enunciating each word. "I want you to taste the bitterness of losing your beloved."
"You..." My heart sank completely.
"Lu Chen, just give up on this," He Yun sneered. "I will never forgive you."
"Get out! I don't want to see you again!" He Yun shouted at me, pointing toward the door.
"I'm not leaving!" I insisted. "He Yun, can we talk this through? Please?"
"There’s nothing to talk about between us," He Yun said coldly. "I've made it very clear: I’m marrying Xu Feng. I want you to suffer; I want you to regret it!"
"He Yun..." I tried to approach her, but she pushed me away.
"Get away!" she yelled. "Don't touch me!"
I stumbled back, nearly losing my balance.
"He Yun, do you really have to do this?" I looked at her, my voice trembling.
"Yes, I have to," He Yun replied coldly. "This is what you owe me, what you owe Mo Han."
"I..." I opened my mouth but couldn't find the words.
"Manager Lu, are you alright?" A familiar voice suddenly rang out.
I turned my head and saw Chen Jie looking at me with concern.
"Chen Jie?" I was a bit surprised. "What are you doing here?"
"I heard you were hospitalized and planned to come visit you later," Chen Jie said. "What happened? How did you end up here?"
"I..." I didn't know how to explain.
"Lu Chen, aren't you leaving yet?" He Yun's voice cut in again. "Do you really want me to call security to throw you out?"
"He Yun, you're going too far!" Chen Jie couldn't stand it anymore and stepped up to speak for me.
"Chen Jie, this is between him and me. You'd better not interfere," He Yun said coldly.
"You..." Chen Jie was left speechless by He Yun's sharp words.
"He Yun, I'll ask you one last time. Do you really want to marry Xu Feng?" I looked at He Yun, my voice hoarse.
"Yes," He Yun answered without hesitation.
"Fine, fine, fine." I repeated the word three times, feeling as if my heart had turned to ash. "If that's the case, then I'll let you have your way."
"From now on, we will sever all ties and have nothing to do with each other."
I turned around and stumbled out of the gallery.
“Lu Chen!” Chen Jie called out from behind me.
I didn’t look back or stop my steps.
I had no idea how I made it home.
All I remembered was that I drank a lot, an overwhelming amount.
I locked myself in my room, avoiding everyone.
Days passed like this—one day, two days, three days...
I lost track of time and didn’t know how I was getting through it.
All I knew was that my heart hurt, it hurt so much.
My stomach ached too, tightening with each wave of pain.
Finally, one deep night, I couldn’t take it anymore.
I crawled out of bed and stumbled to the bathroom, leaning over the toilet, throwing up until the world spun around me.
Blood surged from my mouth.
It stained the entire toilet bowl.
A wave of dizziness hit me, darkness enveloped my vision, and I lost consciousness once again.
In the darkness, a voice called out to me.
“Lu Chen, Lu Chen…”
Who is it?
Who is calling me?
“Lu Chen, wake up…”
The voice became clearer.
I struggled to open my eyes and saw a blurry face.
“He Yun?”
“Lu Chen, how are you feeling?”
He Yun?
Is it really He Yun?
How did she end up here?
“I…” I wanted to speak, but my throat was dry, and no sound came out.
“Don’t talk. I’m taking you to the hospital.”
He Yun? Taking me to the hospital?
“Xu Feng… where is he?” I mumbled.
“He…” He Yun hesitated, “Lu Chen, please don’t speak. I’m begging you, okay? Just hold on a little longer; we’ll be at the hospital soon.”
He Yun's voice was tinged with tears, and they streamed down her cheeks, falling onto my face.
Is she crying for me?
Is she concerned about me?
I felt my eyelids growing heavier and heavier...
He Yun, don't cry, I don't blame you... really... I don't blame you.
"Lu Chen! Lu Chen!"
He Yun's voice gradually faded away, and I sank once more into boundless darkness.
He Yun, what exactly do you want to do?
