I pushed away Lao Ma's arm and walked over to sit on the sofa.
"How did you know?"
Lao Ma's expression changed, but he quickly regained his composure.
He approached me again, attempting to embrace me.
I took a step back, opened my phone, found the documents sent by my lawyer, and forwarded them to Lao Ma.
"Take a look at this first."
Lao Ma dismissed it with a laugh, saying, "Wife, are you calling me so urgently because you miss me?"
I remained silent, watching him quietly.
The smile on Lao Ma's face gradually faded.
"What is this?"
He trembled as he opened the document.
"A divorce agreement? You want to divorce me?"
Lao Ma looked at me in disbelief, his eyes filled with anger.
"I initiated it."
"Why?"
Lao Ma shouted, "Lin Ying, what have I done to wrong you? You want a divorce?"
I let out a cold laugh. "What have you done to wrong me? How have you ever treated me right?"
"You cheated and still expect me to cover for you? Dream on!"
"I..."
Lao Ma tried to argue, but I interrupted him. "No need to explain. Whether you cheated or not doesn't matter to me. I have all the evidence of your infidelity in my hands. If you dare refuse the divorce, I'll release all of it—better to destroy everything than let you get away with this."
"I..."
Lao Ma still wanted to struggle. I raised an eyebrow and looked at him. "What? Do you want to give it a try?"
Lao Ma stared at me for a long time before he slumped down in his chair. "Fine, I agree to the divorce." He picked up a pen and signed his name.
I took the agreement and walked over to the vanity, removing my meticulously applied makeup.
"Lin Ying, can I ask you a question?" Lao Ma's voice was hoarse, with a hint of hope in his eyes.
"Why did you marry me in the first place?"
I paused for a moment, then let out a light laugh. "Haven't you already guessed?"
Lao Ma was taken aback, confusion etched on his face. "Well, you always hold yourself in high regard. So let me ask you, when did you start to doubt?"
He fell silent for a long time before answering in a muffled voice. "I knew before you confessed to me."
"Then why did you stay with me?"
There was a hint of grievance in Lao Ma's tone. "It's simple; I just followed the plan. I needed to get married within six months. You were just one of the candidates, and at that time, you were ranked higher."
"Then..."
Lao Ma's eyes reddened. "Did you ever...?"
"No." I turned my head to meet Lao Ma's gaze directly.
"I never loved you."
Lao Ma sat in the bedroom, glaring with wide eyes.
I finished washing up in the bathroom and walked into the dressing room, pulling out my suitcase to start packing my things.
Lao Ma stormed in, his face filled with anger. “Lin Ying, what do you think this place is? You come and go as you please?”
I let out a light laugh and continued folding my clothes. “What else should I do? Lao Ma, you don’t think I’m still waiting around for you like before, do you?”
I turned to face Lao Ma. “Starting today, we’re sleeping separately. Tomorrow morning, I’m moving back to my parents’ house.”
“Don’t push it too far!”
Lao Ma gritted his teeth, looking as if he wanted to strangle me.
“Is this too much?” I looked at him defiantly. “Lao Ma, you don’t really think that no one wants me except for you, do you?”
“I’ll tell you this: the line of people chasing after me stretches all the way to France. I chose you because I felt sorry for you.”
“Lin Ying!”
Lao Ma shouted angrily.
I stared at him, raising an eyebrow and smiling lightly. “Lao Ma, spare me the theatrics. You have nothing now; what right do you have to shout at me?”
With that, I turned and walked away.
