Lao Ma stared at my retreating figure, his gaze icy.
"Lin Ying, just wait. I won't let you have it easy!"
I dismissed him with a wave and closed the bedroom door.
"I'm upstairs, don't disturb me."
In the room, Lao Ma clenched his fists and opened an app, increasing the values.
"Lin Ying, I want you to know that I'm not someone to be trifled with."
Lao Ma sneered and lay down to sleep. He had long planted a bomb, just waiting for this day.
In the middle of the night, I was awakened by Lao Ma's voice.
"Lin Ying, get up quickly! Dad has collapsed!"
I shot up in bed, a flicker of panic crossing my face.
Lao Ma smirked, his eyes filled with satisfaction.
When we arrived at the hospital, my father had already passed away.
The doctor came out, his face full of regret.
"Ms. Lin, your father died from severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Please accept my condolences."
I stood there in shock as Lao Ma supported my shoulder.
"Lin Ying, don't be sad. Dad's health has been poor for a long time; he held on for you."
I looked up at Lao Ma.
"What do we do now?"
Lao Ma took my hand firmly. "Don't worry, I'm here for you. I'll contact the funeral home right away; let's get Dad to the morgue first."
In the following days, I was busy with my father's funeral, and I lost quite a bit of weight.
Lao Ma was by my side, bustling around and being incredibly considerate.
I temporarily forgot about the divorce issue.
After the funeral, Lao Ma found a hotel and arranged to meet Feifei. When Feifei saw Lao Ma, her face lit up with surprise.
“Lao Ma, you were looking for me?”
Lao Ma nodded and pulled out a diamond ring from his pocket.
“ Feifei, will you marry me?”
Feifei stood frozen in place, and after a long moment, she slowly shook her head.
“Lao Ma, we’ve only known each other for a short time. Isn’t this a bit too soon?”
Lao Ma chuckled softly. “Not at all, it’s not too soon. Feifei, you don’t understand how long I’ve waited for this moment.”
“But…”
Feifei frowned as she looked at Lao Ma.
“Don’t you think it’s unwise to leave all your assets to Lin Ying?”
Lao Ma gazed at Feifei with a knowing smile.
“Who said I would leave all my money to Lin Ying?”
Feifei was taken aback as Lao Ma stood up and took her hand.
“Alright, Feifei, it’s time for us to go.”
“Go? Where?”
Feifei looked puzzled.
Lao Ma chuckled again. “To get the money.”
Lao Ma presented their father’s will, and I stared in disbelief, my eyes wide open.
“No way! How could my dad leave the assets to you?”
Lao Ma looked at me with a smirk, his eyes filled with triumph.
“Lin Ying, no matter how capable you are, what does it matter? Your dad still left everything to me.”
"Shut up!" I shouted, and Lao Ma smiled even more.
"Lin Ying, it won't do you any good to be angry. The will has been notarized, and your father's inheritance belongs to me."
"Don't get too smug!" I glared at Lao Ma, a thought suddenly flashing through my mind. "Lao Ma, would you really go so far as to kill someone for money?"
Lao Ma paused for a moment, then burst into laughter. "Lin Ying, have you lost your mind? I would kill your father for money?"
"What wouldn't you do?" I said coldly, still watching Lao Ma. Looking back now, Lao Ma had always acted strangely.
On the day my father passed away, he called me to the hospital.
"I was at home sleeping when I got a call from the hospital saying your dad had collapsed and I should hurry over."
"Are you sure it was the hospital that called you?"
Lao Ma frowned slightly, seeming a bit displeased. "Lin Ying, what do you mean by that? You don't think I harmed your father, do you?"
"Isn't that what happened?"
