Chen Moxuan's memories told him that this place should not be like this. For a moment, he felt disoriented, standing still without moving. At that moment, a kind-looking old man with white hair approached him.
"Young one, this is your first time here, isn't it? Don't just stand there; you'll block the way for others. If someone with a bad temper comes along, you’ll be in trouble," he said with a warm smile. "If you have nowhere to go, come with me!"
Although the old man looked quite aged, he appeared very spirited and healthy. As he spoke, he reached out and tugged at Chen Moxuan's clothing, pulling him to the side of the road.
"You can call me Fu Bo!"
"Fu Bo, I feel like I've lost some memories and don’t know how I got here. I only remember that I came for something important, but I’ve forgotten what it was!"
"Oh dear, young one! How could you lose your memory like this? What a pity!" Fu Bo exclaimed. "But it’s alright; you can stay at my place for now and think things over. You’ll eventually remember why you came."
Fu Bo seemed genuinely enthusiastic.
"But I don’t have any money on me," Chen Moxuan protested.
"What does that matter? My house has plenty of space, and there are empty rooms just sitting there. Having you around will only bring more life to the place!"
"Come on, let’s go home," Fu Bo said, pulling Chen Moxuan in a certain direction.
The scene caught the attention of those around them and some shopkeepers, but no one said anything. Instead, they looked at Chen Moxuan with cheerful smiles. However, these smiles seemed somewhat strange, lacking genuine emotion.
When Chen Moxuan looked closely, he realized that these people didn’t seem to be smiling at all. Confused, he followed Fu Bo until they arrived in front of a large courtyard.
The courtyard was indeed as spacious as Fu Bo had described. It was much larger and more luxurious than the surrounding ones. Just from this courtyard alone, it was clear that Fu Bo held a significant status in Heartless Valley.
Fu Bo led Chen Moxuan directly into the courtyard.
"Ying Ying! Ying Ying! Come out and see what grandpa has brought back for you!" he called out loudly.
"What could grandpa possibly bring back? It’s probably just another useless wooden figure!" came a clear voice as a young girl appeared in the courtyard.
She looked to be around eighteen or nineteen years old, strikingly beautiful with flowing long hair. Initially pouting when she emerged, she immediately brightened up upon seeing Chen Moxuan.
"Grandpa, is this the newcomer from outside?"
"That's right. As soon as I discovered he was new, I brought him back. Aren't I good to you?"
"You're the best, Grandpa! Thank you!"
Fu Yingying said eagerly as she turned to look at Chen Moxuan, examining him from head to toe. The more she looked, the happier she seemed to become. Her gaze was so intense it felt like she wanted to devour him whole.
"You should go rest for now. I'll treat this young man to something to eat. Don't rush!" Fu Bo instructed, noticing Fu Yingying's growing excitement.
"Grandpa, you must save some for me!"
"Don't worry, my dear granddaughter."
With that, Fu Yingying left the courtyard but not before casting a lingering glance back at Chen Moxuan.
Chen Moxuan listened to the conversation between the grandfather and granddaughter and found it a bit strange, though he couldn't quite pinpoint why.
"I still don't know how to address you. Let me take you to eat something!" Fu Bo said. "You must have walked quite a bit to get here; you must be hungry."
Fu Bo led Chen Moxuan to another area where a table was already set with an array of dishes. Chen Moxuan counted them out of boredom—there were ten dishes, each one looking delicious and fragrant.
"I'm Chen Moxuan!" he said without any hesitation, seemingly unguarded.
"A name! It’s clear that the person who named you is quite talented," Fu Bo remarked. "I’m quite a bit older than you, so I’ll call you Xiao Chen!"
"Xiao Chen, please sit down. It’s not easy for you to come here, so I had my servants prepare a feast. You must eat plenty!"
As Fu Bo spoke, he pulled out a chair for Chen Moxuan and sat down beside him.
"Xiao Chen, have some wine too! This is my homemade Daughter Red. It’s been buried underground for a long time; it was originally meant for my granddaughter's wedding. But Yingying hasn’t met anyone she likes yet, so it’s just been sitting there. Now that you’re here, I thought I’d bring out a bottle for you to taste."
"You should drink some too; this is fine wine!"
Fu Bo poured a glass of wine for Chen Moxuan without hesitation. The Daughter Red was indeed excellent—its color was clear with no bubbles and emitted a delightful fragrance. He then poured himself a glass as well.
"Xiao Chen, come on, let's have a toast!" Fu Bo exclaimed, raising his own glass.
Chen Moxuan watched the scene before him, feeling a sense of unreality. He discreetly pinched himself, but the pain confirmed that he was not dreaming. Yet, something felt off, though he couldn't quite pinpoint what it was.
Noticing that Chen Moxuan had not lifted his glass, Fu Bo's eyes flickered with a hint of surprise. Typically, those who inadvertently entered Heartless Valley found it hard to resist its peculiar rules. Generally, whatever he said would be followed without question. But this young man before him seemed to retain some judgment of his own. Was it due to his formidable strength? Or was there something special about him?
Fu Bo became even more intrigued by Chen Moxuan. Such a person was far more interesting!
"Xiao Chen, are you rejecting my hospitality? You won't even drink when I offer you a toast?" he emphasized.
"No, no! I’ll drink!" Chen Moxuan found himself instinctively compelled to comply with Fu Bo's words. He lifted the glass and slowly brought it to his lips.
Seeing this, Fu Bo finally smiled. He downed the contents of his own glass in one go! However, after finishing, he noticed that Chen Moxuan still hadn't taken a sip; the glass was merely an inch from his lips, yet not a drop had been consumed.
This made Fu Bo quite angry. "Xiao Chen, why haven't you drunk yet? I've already finished my drink!"
