I once again activated the Prophetic Eye, searching for a new escape route.
I noticed a ventilation shaft above the corridor. Although small, it was large enough for us to fit through.
“Elisa, Herman, let’s get out through the ventilation shaft!”
The three of us worked together to open the shaft and climbed up.
Just as we left, members of the Dark Pact rushed into the corridor.
We had successfully escaped.
Hiding in the woods, we observed the situation around the building.
“They didn’t follow us; it seems we’re safe for now,” Elisa sighed in relief.
“Su Wan, your Prophetic Eye saved us,” Herman said gratefully, looking at me.
I shook my head, feeling no sense of ease in my heart.
“This is only temporary; the Dark Pact won’t give up easily.”
Suddenly, Herman’s expression turned serious, and his tone became somber. “Su Wan, there’s something else I need to tell you about the prophecy.”
“The true reason for the city’s destruction is not as stated in the prophecy…”
His words trailed off, and my heart sank.
What was the truth behind the prophecy?
With a grave expression, Herman slowly revealed the truth.
“The true cause of the city’s destruction was not a natural disaster, but rather man-made.”
A jolt ran through my heart, a chill creeping from my feet to the top of my head.
It felt no different than falling into an ice cellar.
"Human-made?"
Elisa's voice trembled in disbelief.
Herman nodded heavily.
"There is an organization called 'Dark Pact.' They are trying to use ancient magical rituals to destroy this city."
I clutched Sera tightly, my fingertips turning white as my heart raced uncontrollably.
Fear and anger intertwined within me, almost consuming me whole.
"Why would they do this?"
My voice was hoarse, tinged with an uncontainable tremor.
"To gain greater power."
A flash of anger crossed Herman's eyes as he clenched his fists, knuckles turning white.
"They believe that only destruction can bring about rebirth. They're truly insane!"
I felt a wave of helplessness wash over me, yet an inexplicable anger surged within my chest, like a burning flame.
Destruction?
Rebirth?
What absurd logic!
"We must stop them!"
My voice trembled, yet it was unusually firm.
Elisa also spoke with determination.
"I have deciphered the prophecy; the ritual of the Dark Pact will take place in three days."
Three days?
Time is of the essence!
"We must find their stronghold before then and prevent this disaster."
Herman's voice was deep and powerful, carrying an undeniable authority.
I took a deep breath, striving to remain calm.
Now is not the time to panic.
"Sera, can you foresee their location?"
My voice carried a hint of desperation; Sera was our last hope.
Sera closed her eyes and softly chanted an ancient incantation.
Her voice was ethereal and mysterious.
After a moment, she opened her eyes, a glimmer of light flashing within them.
It felt as if we had pierced through the mist of time and space.
"In the abandoned factory at the city center."
Sera's voice was weak, yet it reached my ears clearly.
Herman nodded.
"That used to be the battlefield of the magical war, filled with residual magical energy. It's an ideal place for holding the ritual."
"We need to come up with a plan."
Elisa's brow was furrowed, her expression serious.
"We can't act recklessly; otherwise, we'll just be throwing our lives away."
Herman walked over to the wall and unfolded a city map.
It was densely marked with various pieces of information.
"This is the stronghold of the Dark Pact, surrounded by their spies. We must be cautious."
I looked at the map, my mind racing with strategies.
Time was slipping away, and we needed to act quickly.
