"Having you all in the company is a blessing," Li Meng said with a cheerful smile. The two others forced a stiff laugh in response but didn't say anything. Li Meng didn't mind; the three of them were cramped in the small elevator.
"Ah, why does this person talk in such a weird tone?" Liu Ru Yan said angrily, her eyes secretly sizing up Li Meng from the corner of the elevator. Li Meng almost instantly caught Liu Ru Yan's gaze and responded with a bright smile. Liu Ru Yan's hand tightened around Lan Ruo Yi's sleeve, leaning closer to her for comfort.
"What's wrong, Ru Yan? Why are you hiding from me? Am I that scary?" Li Meng asked gently, but she felt a chill creeping up from her feet to her limbs. 'What should I say? Why is this elevator so slow? I can't take it anymore.' Lan Ruo Yi patted Liu Ru Yan's hand reassuringly and smiled at Li Meng. "Hehe, she's just a bit timid. The company was too dark earlier, and she hasn't recovered yet; she feels uncomfortable looking at anyone."
"Is that so? You two seem to get along quite well!" Li Meng nearly rolled her eyes at this comment. What did that even mean? Lan Ruo Yi had never seen someone so oblivious; how could she compare their relationship? It would be nice if she had some sense of awareness. Fortunately, Li Meng wasn't interested in finding out the answer. The elevator finally came to a stop, and Liu Ru Yan let her guard down, allowing Li Meng to exit first.
Lan Ruo Yi pulled Liu Ru Yan out quickly; it felt too unsafe here, and they needed to get home as soon as possible. Although Li Meng's figure was no longer visible, Lan Ruo Yi felt as if someone was watching them from the shadows—a tension she had never experienced before. The last time she felt this anxious was before they were nearly set on fire.
"A Yan, do you think someone is following us?" Lan Ruo Yi asked urgently for confirmation but received a negative response from Liu Ru Yan.
"Yi Yi, what do you feel?"
"Um, I feel a bit tense." Hearing this made Liu Ru Yan realize that things might be serious; the last time Lan Ruo Yi mentioned feeling tense was just before their near-death experience.
Meanwhile, in a car nearby, two individuals watched as the two girls stood at the company entrance, gazing after a woman who was walking away. Liu Yuchuan squinted and asked Liu Da, "Was that Li Meng?"
"Yes, boss. I heard she's involved with Wang Yang..." Liu Da began to share some gossip but was immediately silenced by Liu Yuchuan raising his hand.
"I don't want to hear it."
"Oh," Liu Da said sadly. In the past, when he was with the young lady, she would share everything with him willingly. He looked at Liu Yuchuan with a mournful expression, making him feel uneasy under that gaze.
"Someone is following them," Mo Daowan's voice chimed in. Both Liu Yuchuan and Liu Da stopped talking and focused on the two girls.
"Then let's hurry up and leave. If you're feeling it too, I'm starting to get goosebumps," Liu Ru Yan said as she pulled Lan Ruo Yi along. She subtly used her skills to quicken her pace without making it obvious.
The person following them noticed this and quickened their steps as well. The path ahead was somewhat dark with few streetlights, giving off an unsafe vibe.
"Where are you two beautiful ladies headed?" They walked on without looking up, hoping not to attract attention when unexpectedly someone approached them.
Liu Ru Yan flicked her tongue against her cheek like a restless snake and sighed impatiently before looking up at the person blocking their way. Lan Ruo Yi observed Liu Ru Yan's startled demeanor and instinctively took a step back. To her surprise, two more people appeared behind her, leaving Lan Ruo Yi trapped between them and unable to move forward or backward—she could only look anxiously at Liu Ru Yan.
The man in front of them gazed at the two girls who had finally lifted their heads; his eyes sparkled like stars in the night sky. He had been secretly following them just to admire their enchanting figures from behind but was now taken aback by their breathtaking beauty up close.
"Oh my, you really are beauties! Come play with us for a bit before heading home!"
"Hahaha, yes beauties! How about sharing a drink with us?"
Liu Ru Yan found herself both amused and infuriated by their audacity.
