"So, is this your uncle?" Lan Ruo Yi looked at Liu Ru Yan, confirming once again. Liu Ru Yan nodded affirmatively. 'Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh!' Liu Ru Yan chattered in her mind. 'What are you doing?' Lan Ruo Yi felt helpless; she had just closed her mouth and now was talking again. "Liu Xiaoyan, are you secretly cursing me?" Liu Yuchuan observed Liu Ru Yan's silence as she stared at Lan Ruo Yi and felt that she was holding back something.
"No, absolutely not!" Liu Ru Yan quickly denied it. The four of them sat in the same restaurant where the two had dined earlier that afternoon, in the familiar spot by the glass window. Liu Ru Yan sat next to Liu Yuchuan, while Mo Daowan sat beside Lan Ruo Yi. Liu Ru Yan faced Mo Daowan directly, and Lan Ruo Yi faced Liu Yuchuan. To be honest, Liu Ru Yan was quite fond of someone like Mo Daowan—gentlemanly and refined—so sitting across from him made her feel unusually shy.
Then Lan Ruo Yi thought of something and looked at Mo Daowan. "Brother, what are you doing here? Are you with my uncle?" Hearing the term "uncle" made Liu Yuchuan wince a little. Mo Daowan noticed that Liu Ru Yan was also curiously staring at him and spoke slowly, "Our company has a collaboration with your uncle's company." He didn't elaborate much because he knew that Liu Ru Yan and Lan Ruo Yi's memories were like shattered porcelain—fragmented and incomplete—so he felt it was best not to say too much.
Upon hearing this response, Liu Ru Yan looked at Mo Daowan with eyes full of empathy, like a flower trembling in the cold wind, sharing the helplessness and pain of being mere cattle and horses. "Uncle, you’ve worked hard for our family; you’re like an old ox quietly plowing the fields, giving so much!" Liu Ru Yan felt that her uncle had invested so much for her, his efforts flowing like an endless river. Especially in her memory, that warm house was bought by Liu Yuchuan.
Liu Yuchuan had no idea what Liu Ru Yan was imagining. At that moment, he felt a surge of anger rising within him. Liu Da was always attentive to Liu Yuchuan's actions and quickly grabbed him when he sensed he might lash out. "Brother, brother, you can't hit him; he's family!" Seeing this unfold, Liu Er swiftly pulled Liu Ru Yan away like a gust of wind. However, before his hand could touch her, it was yanked away by Mo Daowan with a grip like iron.
Liu Er glared at Mo Daowan, a chilling sensation washing over him. "What’s going on here, Uncle?" Liu Ru Yan asked in confusion, not understanding what she had said wrong. But looking at Liu Yuchuan's furious expression made her voice involuntarily soften. "Stop talking!"
"Yi Yi, what did I do wrong?" Liu Ru Yan felt aggrieved as she clung tightly to Lan Ruo Yi like a frightened fawn. Lan Ruo Yi was also speechless; if her niece described her like that earlier, she would probably have lost her temper too. It must be said that Liu Yuchuan had indeed endured a lot.
"Let go of me; I won’t hit anyone!" Liu Yuchuan felt embarrassed being pulled like this but realized he didn’t need to care about such things anymore. Liu Da reluctantly released his grip on Liu Yuchuan; after all, he wasn’t going to strike out against his own niece whom he had raised.
"Brother, who were those people just now?" Lan Ruo Yi quickly changed the subject; if she didn’t divert attention soon, there might really be a fight—mainly between Liu Yuchuan and Liu Ru Yan. Mo Daowan understood Lan Ruo Yi's intention: "I don’t know; we’ve already called the police. You two girls should be careful; it’s really not safe out this late."
Liu Ru Yan nodded in agreement: "Well, there’s nothing we can do; mainly we’re just too good-looking." Liu Yuchuan couldn’t help but tap her on the head: "Don’t be so narcissistic!" Mo Daowan cast a dark glance at Liu Yuchuan's hand; it felt cold to him.
"I usually don’t get angry—not because I’m magnanimous but because I’m a bit of a coward!" Liu Ru Yan said angrily under her breath without directing it at anyone in particular; however, Liu Yuchuan felt as if he had been singled out again.
Taking a deep breath, Liu Yuchuan decided not to hold it against her this time. Adults shouldn’t hold grudges against children; I’m not an adult—I’m just a kid! No wait! I’m an uncle! I’m older! I won’t get angry; who would benefit from getting sick? Who would benefit? Liu Ru Yan would benefit!
Lan Ruo Yi could clearly see the changes in Liu Yuchuan’s expression and then glanced at the oblivious Liu Ru Yan with a silent sigh. "Alright then, brother; we’ll be careful," she said. She sensed that tonight wouldn’t end simply; if Mo Daowan hadn’t come out earlier, their situation might have turned quite dire.
During the earlier scuffle, she noticed that Scarface had glinted with something sharp—it must have been a group of desperate criminals. How could they have gotten involved with such dangerous people? The first three boys weren’t easy either; she absolutely didn’t believe that Qin Peng would be so confident facing them when they clearly saw a group of people approaching.
"Alright then, let’s get you both home; it’s too late for you to be out here."
