Liu Yuchuan felt a pang of sadness at the thought of still having to worry about love at such an age. When he was younger, he was afraid of relationships, but now that he had grown up, he found himself in a situation where love seemed to have its own destiny. It was truly frustrating.
Lan Ruo Yi still hadn’t figured out what Liu Yuchuan was anxious about. She quickly understood, though this understanding came with a hint of bewilderment. "If I’m not mistaken, Uncle is looking for you not for any other reason, but because of you and Ru Yan. You two just haven’t had the courage to say it out loud," she gestured with her hands, mimicking a heart shape with her thumbs.
"Uncle, wait! Let me process this," she said. "Are you saying that I’m dating A Yan?" Upon seeing Liu Yuchuan nod, Lan Ruo Yi placed her hand over her heart, feeling as if her youthful heart had shattered. Just moments ago, she must have been blind to think that Liu Yuchuan was somewhat handsome, right? How could that be?
Liu Yuchuan stood by the floor-to-ceiling window in his study, sipping a glass of cool water while looking at Lan Ruo Yi with his large, perplexed eyes.
Lan Ruo Yi closed her eyes for a moment and said, "Uncle, you really should let A Yan schedule an eye appointment for you." With that, she decided not to linger any longer and got up to leave. It was one thing for a domineering uncle to sip water casually; it was another to meddle in his niece's love life. If he wanted to interfere, fine, but getting it wrong was something else entirely. As Lan Ruo Yi walked out the door, she couldn’t understand how he could have such thoughts.
Fuming, she stood at Liu Yuchuan's door and pounded the wall. Liu Yuchuan was enveloped in a haze of confusion as he heard Lan Ruo Yi’s suggestion. What did she mean? Was she implying that his eyesight was poor? He felt a strange sense of happiness bubbling within him—perhaps it stemmed from realizing that Liu Ru Yan wasn’t performing some romantic act in front of him anymore.
When he returned to the second floor, he spotted Liu Ru Yan sneaking around on the stairs. "What’s going on? Why did my uncle call for you?"
Liu Ru Yan looked at Lan Ruo Yi with wide eyes full of anticipation. Lan Ruo Yi gazed back at her with those familiar eyes and said, "You have some time? Let’s take your uncle to see an eye doctor; really, we can’t let this go on."
Liu Ru Yan chased after Lan Ruo Yi, asking her questions, but Lan Ruo Yi simply shut the door.
"Hey, Yi Yi, aren't you going to sleep with me?" Liu Ru Yan looked at her, seemingly forgetting their promise, and anxiously knocked on the door.
Back in her room, Lan Ruo Yi heard her voice and suddenly slapped her forehead, realizing she had forgotten. She quickly got up from the sofa and opened the door, trying to ignore Liu Ru Yan as she headed towards Liu Ru Yan's room and closed the door behind her.
Liu Ru Yan stood in the living room, shaking her head in confusion. Her uncle's eyesight had worsened; how could she tell him about this without being obvious?
When Liu Yuchuan came down the stairs with his long legs, he saw Liu Ru Yan standing in the living room in her pajamas, resting her chin on her hand and moving back and forth.
"Why aren't you asleep yet? Did you nap too much this afternoon?"
Liu Yuchuan instinctively thought that this child must have slept too much; it was already past a certain hour, yet she was still so energetic in the living room. His gaze swept around the room and noticed that Lan Ruo Yi's door was open but empty. Meanwhile, Liu Ru Yan's door was closed. He wondered if she had been kicked out.
With that thought, he cautiously approached Liu Ru Yan. "A Yan, did you get kicked out?"
"What?"
Liu Ru Yan jumped in surprise; she hadn't noticed when her uncle had come down. Realizing something, she proudly lifted her head and stared into her uncle's eyes.
Liu Yuchuan was startled by the sudden closeness of the little girl and quickly pushed her away. "What are you doing?"
"Oh, Yi Yi just said to take you to an eye doctor. I wanted to see what's wrong with your eyes. Is there something protruding? Should we go to the emergency room now?"
Liu Yuchuan: ???
He never expected that the joke would be on himself.
"A Yan, are you going to sleep or not?"
Lan Ruo Yi shouted through the door at Liu Ru Yan, who didn't have time to worry about her uncle anymore; her sister was more important.
"Sleep, sleep, sleep, I'm here." Liu Ru Yan headed straight for the room, and soon after, Liu Yuchuan heard his niece's voice: "Uncle, we can't avoid the problem; once I rest up, we must go take a look!"
Avoid the problem? Who? Me?
Liu Yuchuan began to wonder if he should also see an ear specialist; but that would only be necessary if he could get rid of his niece first, right?
"Brother, why don't you keep an eye on your daughter? I can't save her!"
Liu Yuchuan immediately called Liu Ru Yan's father. On the other end, he heard his brother's voice clearly: "Chuan, it's not that I'm blaming you, but wasn't it you who wanted to take her in the first place?"
Liu Wumai chuckled as he listened to his brother's complaints. He never thought that while he remained unbothered, his daughter could provoke such frustration. It seemed he had indeed raised a dragon among phoenixes.
"I'll be driven to my grave by both of you sooner or later!" Liu Yuchuan said through gritted teeth before hanging up the phone.
