"Has A Yan taken a leave?"
When those around noticed that only one of the two who usually sat side by side was present, they were somewhat surprised. After all, weren't these two like conjoined twins, inseparable?
Lan Ruo Yi felt a sense of loneliness without A Yan by her side, her spirits low. Yes, she had a fever, Lan Ruo Yi replied, and then she sank into her own thoughts, ignoring the idle chatter around her.
Last night, it was already late when they got home. Since A Yan had not fully recovered, they didn't sleep together as usual, which left Lan Ruo Yi feeling unsettled. She was still worried about A Yan's health while the others began to gossip among themselves.
Zhang Baofeng noticed that Lan Ruo Yi seemed distracted and tried to steer her attention to another topic: "Hey, Meng Jie didn’t come today either."
Lan Ruo Yi already knew this from yesterday but pretended to be surprised to avoid raising suspicion: "Oh! Right, why didn’t Meng Jie come?" She perfectly displayed the reaction everyone expected.
Zhang Baofeng could tell from her expression that she genuinely didn’t know and exchanged a knowing glance with Bai Juan.
Bai Juan joined the conversation: "You don’t know?!" Lan Ruo Yi feigned curiosity: "Know what?"
Seeing that Lan Ruo Yi's expression seemed sincere, Bai Juan continued: "Li Meng! She resigned."
This news detonated curiosity like a bomb among them. Dong Li and Ming Zhu exchanged glances, and then Dong Li feigned surprise: "Huh? Why? Didn’t she just get promoted?"
Ming Zhu reluctantly chimed in; she recalled her unpleasant encounter with Li Meng yesterday and found it annoying to act friendly today.
Wang Liling interjected: "Maybe she just didn’t want to anymore; who knows?"
Chen Chao’s mental state was not as stable as the others; her mind was filled with the look in Li Meng's eyes when she left yesterday. Ever since learning that Li Meng had been taken by the police and then vanished without a trace, she felt as if a sharp sword hung over her head, making her restless.
Seeing that no one else was speaking and there was no intention to continue the conversation, Lan Ruo Yi felt bored. She took out her phone and started chatting with A Yan.
Lan Yue Liang: "Ah, I miss Yan Yan on her first day off!"
Liu Xia Sui: "What are you going on about again?"
Liu Ru Yan felt incredibly bored at home. Her body had almost fully recovered, but everyone was still concerned and insisted she stay home for another day of observation.
Seeing the message from Lan Ruo Yi, she felt speechless.
Lan Yue Liang: I'm so sad! You don't love me anymore!
Liu Xia Sui: You better say it!!!
Lan Ruo Yi was lost in her own performance; last night's incident not only sparked A Yan's theatrical side but also piqued her own interest in this playful banter.
Lan Yue Liang: I’m telling you, don’t tell anyone else, okay?
Liu Ru Yan felt a wave of helplessness, unsure if she should respond.
Liu Xia Sui: Don’t worry, this is our secret—only you, me, and the heavens know!
Lan Ruo Yi excitedly typed away at her keyboard.
Lan Yue Liang: They all say Li Meng has resigned and tried to pry information from me. Luckily, I’m smart.
Liu Ru Yan anticipated they would mention this matter but didn’t expect it to come up so soon.
Liu Xia Sui: Tian Luo too?
Liu Ru Yan thought that Tian Luo probably wasn’t affected so quickly; after all, she could tell that Tian Luo liked Li Meng. Did Li Meng's departure not affect him at all? Or did he have other thoughts?
Lan Ruo Yi looked around and noticed that Tian Luo was indeed absent, so she put away her phone. She dragged her chair over to Bai Juan, her movements drawing some attention, but Chen Chao was too caught up in his own fears to notice.
Bai Juan looked up in confusion and saw Lan Ruo Yi approaching.
"Juanzi, has Tian Luo not come today?"
Bai Juan was momentarily at a loss for words. "Ah? It seems like I haven't seen her."
She couldn’t reveal the truth; Tian Luo had been taken away with Li Meng yesterday, and after Li Meng went missing, only Jiang Nan knew his whereabouts.
"Right, where could Tian Luo be?" Zhang Baofeng interjected meaningfully.
Lan Ruo Yi felt they were close to uncovering the truth, but Bai Juan remained tight-lipped.
Lan Ruo Yi was about to drag her chair to her seat when she was stopped by Bai Juan.
"What do you mean?" Lan Ruo Yi stared at Bai Juan, puzzled.
"It's nothing, I just wanted to ask why you're paying attention to Tian Luo," Bai Juan replied, throwing a few flirtatious glances at her.
Lan Ruo Yi pointed at herself, feeling a wave of absurdity wash over her. There was no way she could be interested in Tian Luo, right? Sure, she had previously fawned over handsome guys like Tang Huai Xu, who, despite his questionable character, at least had good looks. But what did Tian Luo have? He was just a skinny bamboo pole, all bravado and no substance. There was no way she could be that blind.
Tian Luo suddenly interjected, "Did I offend you?"
Zhang Baofeng felt for the first time that he was the real pig teammate in this situation. He thought everyone must have seen something before; how could Bai Juan still ask such a foolish question?
"I’m not interested. Just like you, goodbye!" Lan Ruo Yi said as she tried to escape, but Bai Juan pulled her back.
"Don't worry, I won't tell anyone," Bai Juan assured her.
"What are you talking about?" Lan Ruo Yi asked.
"Who are you going to tell?"
"How rude of you."
