"Don't worry about him, he's one of us."
"Yes, he is Mo Wan's brother. Go ahead." Liu Yuchuan's words confirmed to Tang Mu Xuan that this was indeed someone they could trust.
Lin Fengmian manually pressed his chin back down. There had been too much information to process in just one day; it was overwhelming.
Tang Mu Xuan shook the cup of water in his hand suddenly.
Xie Yichang chuckled, picked up a piece of paper, and handed it over with a look of disdain. "Wipe your hands."
Tang Mu Xuan took the paper and carefully wiped his fingers clean, even drying up a small puddle of water on the table.
"What about that matter?" Wang Yang asked.
Tang Mu Xuan's expression tightened at the thought of it; he felt anger rising within him.
"It was taken care of by Jiang Nan's father."
Mo Wan frowned as he looked at Liu Yuchuan. "How many times has this happened?"
Liu Yuchuan let out a sigh. "Tsk, it's the second time."
"Weren't you supposed to talk to your dad about it?" Xie Yichang remarked, surprised that Liu Yuchuan could be so helpless without involving his father.
"Jiang Wencan intervened; my dad had to give him some face," Liu Yuchuan replied. "But they both said it would be the last time."
Tang Mu Xuan recalled telling his father about this when he returned to the old house. After all, Jiang Wencan was also related to Tang Fu in some way.
He remembered what Tang Fu had said: "This is the last time."
He felt a surge of excitement; it meant that if they were given one more chance, there was hope!
After this, capturing them would be quite difficult, right? Why didn’t Jiang Nan inherit any of that boldness?
Liu Yuchuan expressed his confusion, while Mo Wan and Xie Yichang remained silent, not fully understanding the situation in their country.
Lin Fengmian was just an ordinary citizen and knew even less.
Only Liu Yuchuan and Tang Mu Xuan were aware of the complexities at play.
"Uncle, haven't you heard that Madam Jiang used to have someone she liked?"
Tang Mu Xuan could hardly contain himself after hearing Liu Yuchuan's speculation. He was well aware of the news, having heard about it back when he was in middle school from his family. At that time, Jiang Nan was nearing high school, and this sudden revelation caught him off guard, especially since he hadn’t performed well on his college entrance exams.
Since then, although Jiang Wencan didn’t treat Jiang Nan any differently, he still prevented him from getting too close. Liu Yuchuan had heard about it once but hadn’t realized that Tang Mu Xuan was also in the know. It seemed the incident had indeed caused quite a stir.
Apparently, Madam Jiang's first love had come looking for her. Even though Madam Jiang was already married, her first love didn’t mind and was willing to play the role of Jie Yu Hua. Reflecting on it now, Tang Mu Xuan thought it was quite bold for a grown man to take on such a role. He admired that; after all, several decades ago, society was steeped in male chauvinism, and few could be so flexible.
Jiang Wencan would never raise another person's child. Others might not understand, but someone like Jiang Wencan would absolutely refuse to support someone else's child; he was far too cunning for that.
Tang Mu Xuan curled his lip but chose not to say anything further. Deep down, he knew there was no chance of Jiang Wencan doing such a thing; it was just a malicious thought he entertained.
“If you want to catch Wang Yang, it’ll be difficult. Do you have any ideas?” Liu Yuchuan asked as he toyed with the teacup in his hands, looking at Tang Mu Xuan.
Tang Mu Xuan wore a troubled expression; indeed, if things continued like this, capturing Wang Yang would become increasingly challenging. He would eventually slip up—if not by accident, then by design.
Lin Fengmian hadn’t expected Tang Mu Xuan to say something like that, yet no one else seemed surprised. It felt out of place to be overly astonished.
So they remained silent. The others truly didn’t see any issue with the situation; for people in their position, achieving their goals often required such measures. Moreover, Wang Yang was worth the effort.
Lan Ruo Yi and Liu Ru Yan finished work and sought out a more private place for dinner.
As they waited for their food after placing their order, the two sat idly, staring at their phones. It was somewhat strange that they hadn’t argued about anything. I thought this might be a good opportunity.
Lan Ruo Yi was the first to speak up, glancing at Liu Ru Yan, who wore a troubled expression. "I hope this is a good opportunity. Do you think we can really get through this?"
Liu Ru Yan recalled how the two of them had experienced a bizarre assassination attempt the previous year. During that incident, she had been unconscious for three months, and so had Lan Ruo Yi. Each time they thought back on those three months, it felt like they had lived through a terrifying lifetime.
When they woke up, many memories had vanished from their minds; they couldn’t remember who they were or where they came from. The scars they bore were reminders of the pain and suffering they had endured.
"We survived last time, A Yan. I believe we’ll survive this time too," Lan Ruo Yi said, still holding onto a glimmer of hope.
"Let’s not borrow trouble from the future. We’ll take it one step at a time," she added.
Lan Ruo Yi was right; no matter how much they worried now, it wouldn’t change anything. They would have to face whatever came their way, and the most important thing was to ensure their safety.
Suddenly, Liu Ru Yan's phone vibrated on the table. She noticed it and looked closely—it was a call from Zhang Ayi.
"Zhang Ayi? What’s going on?" Liu Ru Yan answered.
As she listened to the response from the other end, her expression shifted to one of amusement mixed with disbelief, as if she couldn’t believe what she was hearing.
Lan Ruo Yi leaned in curiously to listen.
