"Do we really not have to participate?"
"Since you've said that, we definitely won't have to perform, so you can relax."
Liu Ru Yan felt a bit regretful, but overall, it was fine. It wasn't too disappointing not to try something she wasn't good at.
Lan Ruo Yi, however, couldn't shake off her anxiety. Looking at Liu Ru Yan's relaxed expression made her a bit envious; it seemed like she had come to terms with everything.
"Oh my Yi Yi, why do you still look so troubled?"
Liu Ru Yan noticed Lan Ruo Yi's sorrowful face and playfully shook her shoulder, then pinched her cheek and gave it a gentle rub.
"I'm fine, really."
Lan Ruo Yi took a deep breath and decided to take things one step at a time.
Just as the two of them finished showering and were about to rest, Liu Ru Yan's phone started vibrating again.
She felt a bit impatient; why were there so many calls every day? Couldn't they just send messages? Was there a limit on messages?
"Hello! Who is this? Speak!"
Liu Yuchuan didn't expect to hear such a cold and slightly angry tone on the other end of the line; he hesitated for a moment before responding.
"Ahem." Liu Yuchuan cleared his throat before explaining his arrangements. "It's me, Xiao Yan. I have some matters to handle here and won't be returning for the time being. Your mother asked Liu Yi to come take care of you; she will arrive tomorrow, so be prepared."
Liu Yuchuan quickly finished speaking and listened quietly to the sounds on the other end of the line.
Liu Ru Yan exclaimed, "What did you say?"
Then she realized he meant he wouldn't be coming back. "Wait, isn't everyone really busy right now?"
"So you're not coming back? Alright."
"Yeah."
Liu Yuchuan didn't expect such an unruffled response from her. "That's it? You don't need me anymore?"
"What else should I say?"
Liu Ru Yan didn't think there was anything wrong; wasn't this normal? You were busy, and so was I. It's fine, just remember to get up tomorrow; Liu Yi will wake you up.
Liu Yuchuan still felt a bit uneasy and reminded Liu Ru Yan, who responded with a series of "uh-huhs." It was hard to tell if she truly absorbed what he said.
"No need for that; Liu Yi will be coming tomorrow," she replied.
By the way, Liu Yi is here. Who will take care of Grandma? Liu Ru Yan recalled that Liu Yi had been with Grandma at the old house. What would happen to her own grandmother?
"Your grandmother said she wanted Liu Yi to take care of you because she’s worried," Liu Yuchuan explained, clearly sharing the same concern. The Liu family had many members.
"You don’t need to worry about your grandmother; it’s mainly about you," he continued, his tone still affectionate, though anyone observing closely would notice a hint of harshness in his eyes.
He would find out who arranged for Zhang Ayi to handle this matter.
"Alright then, get some rest early," he said.
After finishing the call with Liu Yuchuan, Liu Ru Yan hung up and glanced at the time—it was already late evening.
"Tsk, is Liu Ru Yan a pig? Going to bed so early," he muttered.
"Have you eaten?" he asked.
"Yes, I’ve ordered food; don’t worry about it. Just focus on your work," came Liu Xia Sui's reply.
With a sigh, Liu Yuchuan reluctantly put his phone away.
Liu Ru Yan's schedule hadn’t changed much with Lan Ruo Yi; they both started feeling sleepy around the same time every day.
"Tomorrow we have to go again; it’s so annoying," Lan Ruo Yi thought, feeling genuinely distressed about returning to work.
"Liu Yi will come tomorrow; better wake up early."
Liu Ru Yan recalled Liu Yuchuan's words and brought them up to Lan Ruo Yi.
Lan Ruo Yi's first reaction was, "Oh? More people are coming?" Then she thought, "This is bad."
"Is Liu Yi easy to get along with?"
From what she remembered, Liu Yi had been quite fond of her, but they had never truly interacted.
Liu Ru Yan spoke the truth; even if her memories were warm, reality could be different. What she could confirm was that Liu Yi was a good person! At least she stood by their side, unlike Zhang Ayi, who was just an employee in their home and didn't know much about the Liu family.
"That's good. As long as she's a good person," Lan Ruo Yi felt relieved.
"Are you going back to the Lan family later?" Liu Ru Yan suddenly asked as she looked at Lan Ruo Yi, who was lying beside her and scrolling through her phone.
Lan Ruo Yi put down her phone and faced Liu Ru Yan, their eyes meeting in the darkness.
"I've thought about that too. Ever since I came here, I've been living at your place, and I don't even know how my family is doing." She sighed, "What excuse should I use to go back? After all, I'm the one who ran away from home."
At this point, Liu Ru Yan couldn't help but laugh. She had dated many people in the past, and now she found herself entangled with a man.
She wanted to say: "Do you really have to hang yourself on a crooked tree?"
"I think it doesn't matter whether you go back or not. If you don't want to go back, just come home with me. I can't bear to leave you alone."
Liu Ru Yan also wanted to discuss this matter with Lan Ruo Yi; she wouldn't let Lan Ruo Yi stay by herself.
If they returned to her home, the distance would make things uncomfortable for both of them.
"Let's see how it goes. If you don't go back, I'll just go with you," she suggested. "Or we can just stay together; that works too, as long as we haven't gone through those things."
"Well then, goodnight!"
After they finished speaking, they prepared to rest. Lan Ruo Yi slept fitfully that night, her dreams filled with disorienting events that left her confused.
