I replied uniformly: "My son has gotten married and has now cut off ties with both me and his aunt. I'm truly heartbroken and won't be responding to anyone for a while."

Looking at my sister reminded me of how she had died in my previous life, and my eyes instantly turned red.

I called my son, but he told me that his mother-in-law had caught a cold and that he needed to stay home to take care of her. He said he wouldn’t come since there was an ambulance available. I had only sustained minor injuries and was in the same hospital room as my sister, lying in bed feeling desolate.
It wasn't until three days after the accident that he finally came to the hospital to see me. He glanced at me briefly, saw that I was okay, and then turned around and left without even acknowledging his aunt who had cared for him since he was little.
