The dim light shrouded by the sandstorm made it impossible to tell whether it was day or night. 0

Lu Fei Fan glanced at the time; it was already past eight in the evening. He had just emerged from the Battlefield Hospital and noticed a commotion in the southwestern corner of the base. The wind was too strong for him to approach, but from a distance, he could see many people rushing in and out. 0

The sandstorm had lessened, yet it was quite a feat for ordinary people to run against the wind in such conditions. Amidst the rumbling of the machinery, there were sudden bursts of sound as something resembling cannonballs were fired outside the base. 0

In Lu Fei Fan's clear line of sight, he saw five or six Black Metal spheres being launched, and those large cannon-like devices randomly selected several directions to fire. 0

What on earth is this? Firing shells in a sandstorm? 0

With confusion swirling in his mind, Lu Fei Fan couldn't shake the feeling that since the Skeleton Legion had stationed at this base, they harbored some undisclosed secrets. This unit seemed far more complex than it appeared. 0

However, Lu Fei Fan refrained from asking too many questions; sometimes curiosity was one thing, but digging too deep was another matter entirely. 0

He didn't want to attract unnecessary trouble, so he decided not to pry into matters that didn't concern him. 0

Just as he planned to return to the camp for some rest, the base alarm suddenly blared, its urgent sound echoing throughout the entire facility. 0

This was the highest level of combat alert! 0

Instantly, gunfire erupted across the base, with dense sounds of artillery ringing out from all four corners! 0

All combat personnel poured out like a tide, quickly entering defensive positions as various weapons began to roar. The sound of machine guns filled the air incessantly. 0

"All personnel to combat positions! Level One Combat Readiness! Level One Combat Readiness!" 0

The announcement reverberated through the base. 0

Lu Fei Fan picked up his weapon and equipped himself before exiting the Camp. He saw numerous soldiers, fully armed, shouting and rushing towards their combat positions. Many others, still dazed in place, were quickly urged by their commanders to move along with the soldiers to their designated fighting spots. 0

“What are you still doing here? Come with me!” Suma shouted as she ran past Lu Fei Fan at the Camp entrance, fully geared along with her team. 0

A few of them rushed out of the camp, just like everyone else, hurrying with a sense of urgency into the upper floors or the lower defensive structures. The sandstorm had not yet dissipated; it had merely weakened significantly, but visibility remained poor, with nothing discernible beyond fifty meters. 0

Lu Fei Fan followed Suma and her two teammates into a trench within the base. Soldiers were already stationed there, and during this time, a Second Lieutenant brought over an energy machine gun and handed it to Suma, instructing her to set up a fire support point with her team. 0

“What’s going on?” Lu Fei Fan asked Suma, puzzled. 0

Suma leaned against the trench while checking ammunition. After skillfully loading bullets into her weapon, she turned to Lu Fei Fan and said, “You’ll find out soon enough.” 0

“Prepare for battle!” With that, she crouched behind a Human Sandbag, gripping an Energy Submachine Gun as she aimed forward. 0

The energy machine gun was assigned to two of her teammates, who had already nervously trained their sights outside, their faces etched with tension and fear—an emotion Lu Fei Fan could easily sense. 0

Lu Fei Fan loaded his Energy Rifle and quickly followed the Captain of the Free Federation as he led logistical soldiers in swiftly bringing boxes of Hand Grenades into the trench. 0

Lu Fei Fan glanced at the interconnected trenches constructed around the base; they were strategically arranged with layered firepower clearly designed for defense well in advance. 0

“They’re coming!” 0

Someone shouted from within the trench, prompting many to chamber their weapons with a series of clicks. 0

Lu Fei Fan focused intently on the front. Amidst the swirling yellow sand, visibility was limited, but his instincts clearly sensed something approaching from ahead. 0

Suddenly, a gust of wind swept through the yellow sand, revealing shadows of objects amidst the thin Sha Wu. 0

“Get closer before firing!” the Second Lieutenant instructed as he dashed past everyone like a gust of wind. 0

However, some in the trench couldn’t contain their nerves and fired off shots after just a few tense seconds! 0

Bang! 0

The gunfire erupted like a signal, and before the object in the sandstorm could be clearly seen, all the weapons in the trench unleashed a frenzied barrage towards it! 0

Lu Fei Fan frowned; this was not good, but he remained calm and did not fire his weapon. 0

Suma also held back, but the two soldiers next to him manning the machine gun went wild with their fire until Suma called for them to stop. The concentrated fire from several trenches swept over the object in the sandstorm, causing it to gradually fade from view. 0

The wind suddenly picked up, sending waves of sand swirling through the air. Everyone instinctively covered their mouths and noses with scarves to prevent the dust from getting into their mouths. The sound of gunfire began to die down, and soon the sandstorm started pouring down like rain. 0

Everyone lay quietly in the trench, each person tense as if facing a formidable enemy. Yet, despite the storm outside, it was still just sand. The dust storm heightened everyone’s anxiety and fear; people were increasingly unsettled by the unknown and unseen. 0

Since that last round of gunfire, there had been no further movement from the dust ahead, and the shadow of the object had not reappeared. Some in the trench began to relax. 0

“What kind of thing was that? It’s already gone after we gave it a good beating!” someone chimed in, whistling. 0

“Haha, you still have the nerve to brag? I saw you next to me earlier; you were so scared you nearly wet your pants!” another teased. 0

“Big Neck, you’re the one who wet your pants! I couldn’t help but laugh at how you were covering your head and shouting!” came an immediate retort. 0

“Pfft! Which eye saw me scared?” Big Neck defended himself. “I dare you to stand at the edge of the trench and take a leak outside. If you do, I’ll kneel down and call you big brother!” 0

"Alright, do you dare? If you don't, you're a coward!" the man shot back defiantly. 0

"Bring it on!" 0

The two loudest voices in the trench immediately dropped their weapons amid the cheers of those around them. They glanced nervously ahead, where only the faint sound of Sha Wu could be heard, with no other movement in sight. 0

Even the radar in the Operations Room showed nothing but emptiness. 0

6Berg, Ren Dongchuan, and Tang Kede were all in the command center, watching the command screen as busy operators monitored the situation around them. 0

"Commander, it seems like those heat signatures have disappeared from the infrared monitoring equipment!" one of the soldiers monitoring reported, removing his headset. 0

"Don't let your guard down; continue monitoring!" Ren Dongchuan said, relying on years of experience that warned him to be cautious. 0

What was happening on the western front? 0

6Berg pointed at one of the screens and asked. 0

"Zoom in on that screen," Ren Dongchuan ordered. 0

The screen displayed the trench where Lu Fei Fan was located. After making their bet, the two men stood up in the trench amidst laughter and taunts from a crowd. Suma looked on with disdain at these uncouth Mercenaries. The regular soldiers of the Free Federation, under the supervision of a Second Lieutenant, remained composed, while these newly arrived Mercenaries acted recklessly, undisciplined and unrestrained. 0

The officers of the Free Federation could only turn a blind eye and ordered all soldiers to maintain combat readiness. 0

Encouraged by the jeers and whistles from their fellow Mercenaries, the two men grew bolder. They stood atop the trench and shouted for a while before unzipping their pants to relieve themselves into the wind and sand outside the base. Naturally tense, they had both been holding it in for quite some time, and halfway through, they swayed side to side while shouting. 0

"Big Neck, I can go farther than you! You're clearly scared!" 0

“Bullshit! Let’s compare!” 0

The tension in the trench dissipated completely as the two began their contest, the atmosphere that had felt like facing a formidable enemy was disrupted by these two disorganized and undisciplined Mercenaries. 0

“I won!” One of them, dressed in neat pants, stood triumphantly on the trench, raising his arms and shouting with joy like a victorious athlete. 0

The other turned around with a reluctant expression, both of them facing away from the outside, while all the Mercenaries smoked and watched this relaxed scene unfold. 0

However, the most unexpected situation occurred! 0

Outside the base, whoosh! 0

Something shot through Sha Wu like a sharp arrow, crack! 0

The tall Mercenary who had been celebrating suddenly froze, lowering his head to see a thick yellow barbed object piercing through his chest! 0

In the next moment, he was dragged backward and flew out, accompanied by a scream that vanished into Sha Wu! 0

Another team member reacted just in time to tumble into the trench, but it was too late. As he leaned over, two long tentacles struck him like lightning, and he screamed as he too was dragged away in an instant! 0

In Sha Wu, countless tentacles shot in like precise arrows! 0

More than a dozen people were pulled out simultaneously! 0

Only then did the panicked individuals on the battlefield realize what was happening! 0

“Enemy attack!” 0

Suddenly, the officers in the trench shouted out! 0

Everyone hurriedly entered a combat state, and Suma led his team in a frenzy of gunfire! 0

Bullets whizzed through the air, striking objects in the Sha Wu, accompanied by the chilling roars of ferocious beasts. Gradually, towering figures, three to four meters tall, began to emerge from the Sha Wu. Their tentacles writhed like monstrous trees growing around them—alive and numerous. The tentacles shot forward relentlessly! 0

Everyone began shooting wildly. Some started tossing Light Bullets into the Sha Wu. Under the Light Screen, the true forms of those gigantic monsters became clear. They resembled grotesque trees but were more accurately described as human-eating nests. Each massive nest had a round body surrounded by bizarrely elongated tentacles that writhed and moved, using their tentacles to drag their heavy bodies closer to the base! 0

Countless Ballistic Missiles launched from within the base, suddenly shooting toward those nests! 0

Boom! Boom! Boom— 0

Dozens of Beast Nests were instantly engulfed in explosive flames! But more Beast Nests surged in from behind. Even more terrifying was that these monsters' tentacles could extend dozens of meters, directly pulling soldiers out of the trenches and dragging them into the gaping jaws of the Beast Nests. 0

Lu Fei Fan witnessed a soldier beside him get struck by a tentacle and then pulled into the gaping maw of a Beast Nest. The sight of that Beast Nest writhing was enough for Lu Fei Fan to imagine the horrific fate awaiting that soldier inside… 0
