A surge of anger rose within Xiaomei; she found the condescending attitude utterly repulsive. Taking a deep breath, she struggled to maintain her composure, but her emotions were already in turmoil.
“Auntie, I am not someone who can be easily dismissed,” Xiaomei's tone grew increasingly resolute, showing no signs of retreat. “If you continue to oppose our relationship like this, I might reconsider it. There are plenty of fish in the sea; I refuse to be your sacrificial pawn.”
“Are you threatening me?” A Bao's mother’s expression darkened instantly, a flicker of anger flashing in her eyes.
“I’m merely expressing my feelings,” Xiaomei refused to back down. “In your eyes, I may seem like a useless woman, but I know I deserve a better future. A Bao deserves that too; I hope he can develop his own judgment rather than just follow your arrangements.”
The atmosphere became exceptionally tense. The standoff between them felt like a war without gunpowder. Xiaomei's unease was gradually replaced by courage; she understood that this was not only for herself but also for A Bao's future.
“If you truly love each other, please give one another a chance,” Xiaomei's voice carried a note of determination. “I will strive to prove myself rather than let you judge my worth.”
“You should think carefully; A Bao’s future is not to be taken lightly,” A Bao's mother’s eyes flashed with dissatisfaction. Although she tried to remain calm, the displeasure on her face was hard to conceal.
“I only want A Bao’s happiness,” Xiaomei smiled slightly, knowing deep down that if A Bao truly loved her, he would understand her choice.
“Fine, I hope you take this relationship seriously,” A Bao's mother finally stood up. Despite her worries, she knew that forcing the issue would change nothing.
As Xiaomei watched A Bao's mother leave, her heart churned like a storm. She realized that this confrontation was not just for herself but for the future she envisioned with A Bao. Love requires courage and unwavering determination.
“I must make myself better,” Xiaomei vowed silently, a determined smile appearing on her face.
At the same time, Xiaomei calculated in her mind; her personal assets had already reached millions, and this success was all due to her hard work. She was no longer the unemployed girl she once was but a capable woman ready to share a future with A Bao.
Xiaomei stood in the office of her new company, sunlight streaming through the large floor-to-ceiling windows and casting a bright glow around her. After some time of adaptation and hard work, she had firmly established herself in this new environment, earning praise from her team members. Her heart was filled with a sense of accomplishment.
However, a thread of concern lingered in her mind. A Bao's mother was still trying to obstruct their relationship, and Xiaomei knew that only by truly standing up for herself could she break through this barrier. Resolving not to avoid the issue any longer, she prepared to face the future of their relationship.
One afternoon, while Xiaomei was working overtime at the company, she was deeply focused on her code when her phone on the desk vibrated. She glanced at it and saw a message from A Bao: "There's a dinner tonight, and there will be people from my family there. Would you like to join us?"
Xiaomei furrowed her brow slightly; although A Bao's invitation made her happy, she understood that it meant facing A Bao's mother once again. After a moment of hesitation, she finally replied, "Sure, I'll go."
