In Qi Fan's apartment, Tao Momo had been there all day yesterday and had already called home last night, saying she would return with Qi Fan today. She hadn’t mentioned that Qi Fan was planning to propose, but without having met the parents on either side, she was unsure if her own parents would approve.
Thinking about Qi Mu's attitude, she feared that if they did meet, a quarrel might ensue, and she didn’t want to put her parents through that.
“Qi Fan, do you think this is really okay? Neither set of parents has met,” she asked.
“Mo Mo, let’s go back first and see what our parents think. I’ll buy some gifts on the way. Besides, your parents don’t have any objections to me,” he replied. The simplicity of their family life had its advantages; they didn’t have to consider so many factors. Her parents only cared about whether their daughter liked him and if he was a good man.
Family background and status were far from their concerns. Perhaps because of this, Qi Fan felt their lives were more carefree and happy, without so many constraints.
With this determination, Tao Momo had no objections. After all, a man willing to marry you was the greatest affirmation for a woman, and she loved him.
Qi Fan was well-prepared, carrying bag after bag when they arrived at the Tao family home. Tao Ma glanced at the bags and scolded him lightly, “Qi Fan, just coming over is enough; why bring gifts? This child really…”
“Mom, I told him not to,” Tao Momo interjected. She had already mentioned it while shopping, but Qi Fan insisted it was necessary since he was asking for their daughter’s hand in marriage.
“Auntie, it’s only right to show respect. Besides, it’s nothing much—just some health supplements since autumn is approaching,” Qi Fan said as he set down the items on the table. With only one daughter, having a son-in-law who was respectful felt like gaining another son.
Tao Ba noticed his future son-in-law had arrived and shouted for more dishes to be prepared so they could enjoy a few drinks together.
The warmth of the Tao family made Qi Fan reflect on how his mother had treated Tao Momo rudely during her first visit to his home. He felt even more guilty towards her now.
“Mo Mo, make sure to keep Qi Fan company while I help your dad,” Tao Ma instructed. Rolling her eyes at her mother’s words, Tao Momo thought to herself that her mom didn’t realize she had been with him these past few days.
“Mo Mo, I’m sorry,” Qi Fan said as he held her hand, suddenly feeling genuinely apologetic for putting her in this position.
Tao Momo paused for a moment. “Why are you suddenly so serious about saying sorry? Qi Fan, are you having second thoughts?” She pinched his hand playfully; if that were the case, she would definitely give him a piece of her mind.
“Nonsense! How could I be that kind of person? I just feel a bit guilty for making you marry me like this. Sigh… my family situation… Mo Mo, I’m sorry.” Qi Fan felt helpless; their ingrained beliefs were deep-rooted and changing them overnight was impossible.
Tao Momo let out a sigh of relief; in truth, she didn’t care that much about it. What mattered most was being with him.
“There’s no need to say that, Qi Fan. I won’t mind these things.” Moreover, she didn’t feel unworthy of him. She would work hard to show the Qi Family that marrying her was no less than marrying any other noble lady.
In the kitchen, Tao Ba and Tao Ma had no objections to Qi Fan. However, Tao Ma couldn’t help but feel a bit worried. “Honey, do you think the Qi Family will look down on us?” They only had one daughter, their precious gem.
“Probably not. Look how good Qi Fan is to our Mo Mo. Everything else is unimportant; what matters most is Qi Fan himself,” Tao Ba said while preparing braised fish, clearly noticing that their daughter liked him very much.
“That’s true. Qi Fan is sincere with Mo Mo. Besides, our daughter isn’t lacking either; she’s already started a company with Xiao Ya. These two girls are just as good as any other rich heiress,” Tao Ma said proudly.
Tao Ba and Tao Ma prepared a feast, and Tao Ba brought out the Moutai that Qi Fan had given them earlier. The two of them chatted and drank, creating a warm atmosphere.
“Qi Fan, our Tao Family only has Mo Mo as our daughter. Although we aren’t a wealthy family, we’ve raised her with great care. You mustn’t bully her,” Tao Ba said after having a couple of drinks, opening up the conversation while Tao Ma served food to Qi Fan.
Watching this, it seemed like Qi Fan was their own son.
“Uncle, Auntie, you can rest assured that I will never let Mo Mo down. I have something important to say today: I hope you will allow me to marry Mo Mo. I will make sure she is happy,” Qi Fan said earnestly. Tao Ba and Tao Ma were momentarily stunned; this was all too sudden.
Tao Ma put down her chopsticks and looked at them both. “Have you both thought this through? Marriage is not a game. And Qi Fan, what do your family think about this?”
“Mom and Dad, I’ve thought it through. I want to marry him,” Tao Momo said, unsure how to describe the situation with the Qi Family. It seemed like Qi Mama didn’t think highly of him.
“Qi Fan, please arrange for us to meet your parents,” Tao Ba said cautiously. Although he liked Qi Fan very much, they still needed to be careful about such matters since he only had one daughter.
Qi Fan glanced at Tao Momo, his expression troubled. Tao Ba noticed and asked him, “Qi Fan, is it that your family looks down on our Mo Mo? Do they think she isn’t worthy of you?”
“Of course not! In my eyes, Mo Mo is better than any noble lady,” Qi Fan replied sincerely. “Uncle and Auntie, I will arrange a time for everyone to meet. Please trust my sincerity.” He knew he couldn’t disregard the thoughts of the Tao Family's parents.
After dinner, Tao Mama pulled Tao Momo back to her room. "Mo Mo, didn't you meet with the Qi Family? What was that like?"
Tao Momo didn't want to worry her mother, but it was hard to keep such things hidden. Besides, Qi Fan was planning to arrange a meeting between their families, and just thinking about it gave her a headache.
"Mom, the main thing is that Qi Fan is sincere towards me. I can't control what his family thinks, right?" Tao Mama had crossed more bridges than her daughter had walked roads, and upon hearing this, she sensed that Mo Mo's visit to the Qi Family hadn't gone well.
"Silly girl, do you really think marriage is just about the two of you? Let me tell you, marrying Qi Fan means marrying into his family. If you don't handle the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law relationship well, you'll suffer in the future. Just think about Xiao Ya; even now, the Lu Family hasn't officially acknowledged her."
Tao Mama shook her head at her daughter's naive thoughts. "We're not in a hurry to get married. Let's wait until I meet his family. Besides, what do they have other than being a bit wealthier than us?"
"Yeah, Mom, I get it. I'll work hard to become wealthy myself and then show them what I've got," Tao Momo joked. Hearing this, Tao Mama couldn't help but laugh. "Silly child, alright, get some rest."
"Mom, I'm going out to see Qi Fan off; he hasn't gone home yet."
"Oh, you're not even married yet! This girl is really something," Tao Mama said helplessly. With only one daughter, she naturally hoped for her happiness.
Tao Momo walked into the courtyard where Tao Ba had happily drunk a couple more cups and was pulled back inside by Tao Mama to rest. Qi Fan watched as Tao Momo walked away and went over to take her hand. "Silly girl, you don't want me to go?"
"Who would miss you? You're just flattering yourself," Tao Momo teased him but felt a bit worried inside. "Qi Fan, are you really planning to arrange for my parents to meet yours?"
"Yeah, they'll have to meet sooner or later. Mo Mo, don't worry; I'll talk to them properly when I get back." Seeing her slightly furrowed brows, he gently pinched her nose. "Silly girl, trust me; I'll handle it."
"Alright then, you take care of your family's matters; I'll wait for your news. Anyway, I've been busy lately." As for their family issues, Tao Momo didn't know what she could do; all she could do was strive to improve herself.
"I'll head back now. If it weren't for worrying about your parents' opinions, I wouldn't want to leave. Mo Mo, I miss you." He lowered his voice for the last part, but from his tone, she could tell what he was thinking. She swatted his hand playfully. "Hurry back; we don't want my parents seeing us like this."
"Okay, Mo Mo. See you tomorrow." Qi Fan reluctantly agreed and didn't dare to act recklessly here since this was the Tao Family's home and not his own.
After Qi Fan left, Tao Momo returned to her room and opened her computer, noticing that Ye Ya was still online. It was quite late, yet Lu Tianyang was allowing her to chat.
They exchanged a few simple messages, and Ye Ya mentioned she was tired and needed to sleep. Tao Momo glanced at the time; it was still relatively early. However, considering she had to manage the company and take care of Chen Chen, it was understandable that she felt exhausted, so she didn't think much of it.
At that moment, Ye Ya was being pinned down on the bed by Lu Tianyang. "Wife, you actually have the energy to chat with Tao Momo? Look at you being so free, yet you don’t have time to spend with me."
"Lu Tianyang, please stop. I have a class reunion tomorrow, and I need to go back to the company during the day. By the way, didn’t you say you had an important meeting to attend tomorrow? You need to get some rest," Ye Ya tried to appeal to this wolf's conscience, but she was ultimately naive; a wolf is a wolf, and its nature is hard to change.
"Wife, it won’t take long. I can send someone over to help you with your company. Besides, can’t I even hold my own wife close at night?" Lu Tianyang grew increasingly agitated. This woman never listened; it was time for some discipline.
In one swift motion, he tore open her nightgown. "Wife, don’t wear this next time; it just makes things complicated." After fumbling for a while, he finally managed to unfasten the hidden clasp and tossed it aside carelessly.
"Bastard!"
Before long, Ye Ya began to breathe lightly. Lu Tianyang smirked, "Wife, I knew you would like this."
