"W-where do you live?"
An Nuan felt like she was about to become a stutterer. In her heart, she muttered to herself, "Where you live is none of my damn business!" But then she remembered they were already married, and a shiver ran down her spine.
"I-I don't have anywhere to live," she stammered. "You know the company banned me. The place I was living before was a shared apartment with my boyfriend, and now I can't very well go back there, can I? So..."
These were all just excuses, of course. She *did* still need a place to stay, after all. Her belongings were still there, and she hadn't had a chance to pack, though moving out was inevitable. Of course, her lengthy explanation had only one purpose: to prevent Ye Yunfeng from moving in with her. She wasn't ready to share a bed with a man yet. Even when she was with Xiao Ruoyu, they had separate rooms in their two-bedroom rented apartment.
"If you don't have anywhere to stay, come to my place!" Ye Yunfeng suddenly stood up, looking down at her from his height.
An Nuan was still a little dazed, unable to react. Ye Yunfeng's lips curved into a handsome smile. He leaned closer, intentionally lowering his voice as he chuckled, "The coffee's gone cold. It's time for us to go home."
"C-can I not go?" She felt like she had shot herself in the foot. All that explaining seemed to have just given him a convenient stepping stone. See how smoothly he said it? "If you don't have anywhere to stay, live at his place." They were husband and wife; it was only natural, only right. But she... didn't want to go!
"I wouldn't want my wife still living with her ex-boyfriend. I'm not that generous."
"I..." An Nuan opened her mouth, but found herself unable to retort. What he said was perfectly reasonable. If she strongly objected, it would make it seem as if she still harbored feelings for Xiao Ruoyu. Besides, going back to live there truly wasn't appropriate.
"At the very least, I need to move my things out, right..." She gave an awkward tug at the corner of her lips, finally finding herself a reasonable excuse.
Ye Yunfeng finally smiled, and his exquisite features, when he smiled, were utterly captivating. At that moment, at least, she was utterly mesmerized. He was stunning. Breathtaking. A beauty more refined than Xiao Ruoyu's.
"I'll go with you."
He spoke just three words, yet they struck a powerful chord in her heart.
*I'll go with you.* It was then that she realized the sweetest words of love weren't necessarily "I love you." Simply "I'll go with you" was enough to warm anyone's heart. What she had always longed for wasn't someone who just said "I love you" but stood idly by when she needed help. She simply wanted someone to walk hand-in-hand with her through life's storms. She had once thought Xiao Ruoyu was that person, but clearly, her hopes for him had been too high. How many people in the entertainment industry could truly endure loneliness? Who didn't want to stand beneath the flashing lights and be the most dazzling star?
Leaving the cafe with Ye Yunfeng and getting into his limited-edition luxury car, An Nuan's heart couldn't help but pound nervously. She hoped Xiao Ruoyu and Ye Meiqi wouldn't be there when they returned, otherwise, she'd inevitably face another round of their taunts and mockery. It wasn't that she was afraid of them; it was simply that she didn't want to see them, at least not now.
Outside the apartment she used to share with Xiao Ruoyu, An Nuan took out her key and unlocked the door. The moment she pushed it open, she saw two people, utterly engrossed in each other, sitting on the sofa. The instant Ye Meiqi saw her enter, her previously beaming face immediately stiffened.
"Oh, look who it is! Still so shameless, coming back here at a time like this. Trying to use your charms to seduce him, hoping to convince A-Yu to put in a good word for you with me?" Ye Meiqi sneered, her voice dripping with disdain. "Give it up. The compensation was decided by those above; you have no choice but to accept your fate."
