Inside the underground casino in the west of the city, there was a constant din of noise. Yet, amidst the clamor, one corner remained eerily silent, not a single sound disturbing the stillness. Yu Qiufeng (Yu Fengqiu) stared, silent as a cicada in winter, at the exquisite and dangerously captivating man before her, her face a mask of pure terror.
"S-s-sorry, I didn't mean it, I really didn't mean it."
Yu Fengqiu's voice trembled as she apologized. The man before her held a smile, his exquisite and captivating face displaying a mix of mockery and playful amusement.
Chu Lingchuan was no newcomer to C City's underworld. This was the first time someone had bumped into him and then dared to act so self-righteously. He was keen to find out whose person this was, and who was backing them up, to have such immense audacity.
"Those who come here are either rolling in wealth or completely broke. Which one are you?" Chu Lingchuan asked unhurriedly, toying with the poker cards in his hand, his tone chillingly cool. This casino belonged to his Chu family. Whether she had to repay the money or not was entirely up to his word.
"I-I have nothing, I didn't mean it..."
"Nothing at all, huh..."
Chu Lingchuan clearly paid no mind to her apology, automatically disregarding her previous words. At this moment, Yu Fengqiu's gut was churning with intense regret.
She had originally thought her daughter had finally snagged a rich patron, and that someone was finally readily paying off her debts. So, when she walked away, her back was ramrod straight, enjoying a feeling of looking down on everyone. Who would have thought that joy would turn to sorrow, and she would end up bumping into someone so utterly untouchable? Though she didn't know who this man was, if even the people who had just paid her debts couldn't offend him, he was certainly no ordinary person.
As Yu Fengqiu pondered, the man before her finally spoke.
Looking at Yu Fengqiu, he said with a smile, "I've encountered situations like yours before. Someone claiming to have nothing is either a deadbeat or a liar. Usually, when I come across someone like you, my solution is to 'sell a daughter for glory.' After all, I do have a fondness for women."
The smile on Chu Lingchuan's lips widened. Yu Fengqiu, who had thought there was no hope of escape, heard the mention of her daughter and her eyes lit up.
"I have a daughter! I have a daughter!"
"That makes things easy then. Have your daughter come over. If she's to my liking, I'll keep her here, and today's incident will be forgotten. Otherwise, this young master will chop off your hands. You used *these* hands to push me just now, didn't you?"
Chu Lingchuan's smile remained, but his eyes were filled with an unyielding coldness. Daring to flaunt her power on *his* territory? How many of C City's biggest sharks had to show him respect when they came here? And yet, an ignorant woman dared to appear? Hmph.
The moment Chu Lingchuan mentioned chopping off hands, Yu Fengqiu grew anxious once more.
"No! I know I was wrong! I promise there won't be a next time! I swear, from now on, whenever I see Young Master, I'll kowtow three times and nine bows! I truly know I was wrong!"
"But what if I insist on your daughter?" Chu Lingchuan asked with a playful smirk. Yu Fengqiu was so terrified at this point that her mind went blank; how could she possibly be thinking of her daughter? If she truly were a good mother who cared for her child, she wouldn't be spending her days gambling. Immediately, Yu Fengqiu frantically nodded and said, "Good, I agree! I'll call my daughter right away and have her come over. It's her good fortune to be noticed by Young Master; her looks are quite good, really quite good!"
"Mom, is that really something you should be saying?"
At the sudden voice, Yu Fengqiu sharply turned her head. The moment she saw An Nuan, Yu Fengqiu immediately burst into tears.
"Nuan Nuan, don't blame Mom. If Mom loses these hands, how will I serve you food and drink? Besides, this Young Master is clearly a rich man; you wouldn't be at a disadvantage by being with him. It's much better than you..."
"Shut up!"
