"Do you think my brain is rusted beyond repair, or is it your own brain that's got water in it?"
An Nuan gazed at Ye Meiqi with a strange look, as if Ye Meiqi were completely unhinged. Ye Meiqi, in turn, was sent into a towering rage by An Nuan's utterly unceremonious words.
"You're the one with water in your brain!" Ye Meiqi snarled.
Unseen by them, just outside the door, Ye Yunfeng couldn't help but let out a low chuckle.
His new wife certainly had sharp claws. Yet, in front of him, she was still relatively well-behaved. Of course, even if she wasn't, he had his ways of making her compliant.
His eyes held a hint of doting indulgence as he gazed at the petite figure before him, mixed with a touch of inexplicable heartache. If she could have freely enjoyed the affection of others, how would she have become so sharp-tongued? Behind every capable woman lay countless heartbreaking struggles. No one was born strong; they were all tempered step by step along thorny paths.
Seeing Ye Meiqi's irritation, An Nuan remained unperturbed. With an air of cool detachment, she smiled mockingly. "So your brain isn't waterlogged after all, huh? Since it's not, why don't you think about *why* I would try to entice Xiao Ruoyu? Besides that face of his, what else is there about him that's worth my efforts? Is he rich? Does he have power?"
"Tsk tsk, so, you've found a man who's both rich and powerful then?"
"At least more than him."
An Nuan cast a disdainful glance at Xiao Ruoyu, and seeing the faint trace of anger on the man's face, her smile grew even more sarcastic.
"What, did I say something incorrect?"
She looked directly at Xiao Ruoyu, feeling not an ounce of guilt. An Nuan asked coolly, as Xiao Ruoyu fiercely ground his teeth together. "Lu An Nuan, I owe you nothing! At most, I didn't tell you about the breakup in advance, but as a girlfriend, you never once fulfilled your obligations. And don't play innocent with me; you broke up with me and immediately jumped into bed with another man. You're no saint either."
"That's right, I just didn't want to sleep with you," An Nuan said with a smile. "Because I found you repulsive and feared you had too many women who might transmit AIDS. Is that reason satisfactory to you?" Seeing Xiao Ruoyu's face darken further, she felt a strange thrill of satisfaction.
It's just mocking people, isn't it? Anyone can do that. Compared to that despicable pair, who were having an illicit affair, what was it to them if she, Lu An Nuan, was with another man? What she did after their breakup was none of her ex-boyfriend's business.
"But... you really should go get yourself checked out. Just in case you've been infected, it wouldn't be good, would it?"
"Lu An Nuan, you're just dying for me to have a hard time!" Xiao Ruoyu bit out, his teeth clenched, while Ye Meiqi's face remained stiff, her thoughts unknown.
Suddenly, Ye Meiqi's eyes glinted with suspicion as she looked at Xiao Ruoyu, then she furrowed her brow, seemingly lost in thought. The moment Xiao Ruoyu saw Ye Meiqi's expression, he instantly grew tense.
"Meiqi, don't listen to her nonsense. If you're worried, I'll go get myself checked tomorrow."
"Mmm..." Ye Meiqi nodded, surprisingly offering no objection.
Xiao Ruoyu was instantly somewhat taken aback. Sure enough, this kind of spoiled young lady was high-maintenance. However, Ye Meiqi herself had a history of toying with the company's 'fresh meat' – young, handsome employees. He, Xiao Ruoyu, truly ought to get himself checked, just in case Ye Meiqi had passed on some ailment to him.
Seeing a rift appear between the two, a triumphant smile curved An Nuan's lips. She turned and walked towards her room, entering and re-emerging a moment later, carrying only a single suitcase.
However, before An Nuan could even speak, Ye Meiqi interjected, "Wait, let me see what you're taking with you."
