Book Synopsis
Lin Dahe, a graduate student from a modern agricultural college, found himself transported to the sixth year of the Chongzhen era. Upon awakening, he was confronted with moldy brown rice and an absurd task issued by the system—he had three days to grow food, or he would be forced to bray like a donkey for three days. In order to survive, he utilized his modern knowledge to transform a chamber pot into a drip irrigation system, only to be mistaken by the villagers as suffering from "chamber pot madness," leading to rampant rumors.
Meanwhile, Zhou Liangzhang, the tax collector, had his eyes set on Lin Dahe's drought-resistant potato seeds. Guided by the system, Lin Dahe discovered that what the villagers considered poisonous weeds were actually potatoes. He attempted to prove their edibility but was treated like a beggar. New tasks from the system followed in quick succession: improving composting techniques and creating mouse traps. He had to tackle these challenges while also dealing with Zhou Liangzhang's harassment.
In an unexpected turn of events, Lin Dahe uncovered Zhou Liangzhang's connection to a grain embezzlement scandal from fifteen years prior. At this juncture, Aunt Ma's appearance added further complexity to the situation. As the story progressed, Lin Dahe used his intelligence and courage to resolve crises time and again. He improved the land using modern agricultural techniques, excavated underground water channels, and dealt with invasions. Even when the local officials conscripted laborers, he cleverly navigated through the challenges.
His relationship with Cui Xiaoman gradually deepened as they faced hardships together, but Aunt Ma's mysterious identity and the conspiracy surrounding her loomed ominously. After completing his ultimate task, Lin Dahe thought he could finally lead a peaceful life; however, the system suddenly presented him with a cryptic message—"The true enemy has yet to appear." At that moment, Cui Xiaoman handed him an old notebook containing an ancient and dangerous prophecy that seemed closely tied to the village's future. Lin Dahe realized that this time-traveling adventure was far from over…
