Book Synopsis
The story follows Su Miao, who, on the eve of her wedding, is forced to abandon her fiancé, Luo Ye, after being begged by her mother and slapped by her brother. This heart-wrenching decision comes as she is compelled to support her stepsister, Ding Yuanyuan, who suffers from depression. Six months prior, Su Miao had already donated a kidney to Ding Yuanyuan, who required dialysis. Now, as Su Miao prepares to enter the sacred bond of marriage, her family once again prioritizes Ding Yuanyuan's needs above everything else, demanding that Su Miao sacrifice her own happiness.
Faced with her family's ruthlessness and her lover's hesitance, Su Miao ultimately chooses to escape it all. With a terminal illness and a sense of despair about the future, she returns to the grasslands where her friend Yu Cheng resides. There, she finds inner peace and resolves to end her life on her own terms. The narrative profoundly explores the duality of human nature within familial entanglements and highlights personal growth and choices in the face of adversity.
